Estate Clean Out
Has anyone had an experience cleaning out a house? We have a small house full of furniture and such.
Is there a charity someone has used and would recommend?
Is there someone who would come and make an offer on everything? We are not interested in a garage sale .
Thanks

Hi
Not sure if they are still around - but places like St. Paul De Vincent Society would come and take your stuff for a fee and then they sell it off at their store
Or Salvation Army
If it's nice stuff, you may want to contact a lesser known antique/auction selling house that would want to do an estate sale right out of the house, so they advertise it and host it and you spilit the proceeds with them
Hope that Helps

Yes, there are businesses that specialize in this—some very good and honest, some less-so. How to handle depends on what you have. If you post your Email, I can send you more information.

You can hire someone to run an estate sale and cart off every last thing. They come in, appraise and put stickers on everything, then allow you to choose what you want. That is subtracted from the total intake. They take 10 percent if I remember correctly. It's possible sometimes they price things low, then invite their dealer friends....but who knows. Anyway, it's a great way to get everything sold, and you will probably take in a few thousand at least.

If there are a lot of books, LPs, or camera-related stuff, I could be of assistance.

What do you have??? I might be interested if I could figure out my storage situation. infoATreclaimedhomeDOTcom
I've done a couple of estate sales. Mopar, we priced things low so we can move them! Nobody wants to pay retail prices at an estate sale. The goal is to get rid of everything.

If professional estate sellers sell at very low prices plus the 10% commission/
I suggest you sell it thru craigslist and save the commission.
Try it. Who knows how the money goes but it will be all yours.

My wife and I have done estate sales as well. We can estimate the value of the estate and negotiate a fee up front (I always want to keep items that I like). We can do the sale in person or over ebay.
I can be reached at secretstash at yahoo.com.

My mom passed away in early 2008. She collected dolls, porcelain, clocks, watches, etc. I called Salvation Army and I found them to be incredibly rude. Angel Thrift in Manhattan supports those with HIV/AIDS and the folks who accept donations are incredibly kind and grateful. I would recommend contact them. Dave is the person I dealt with. He will arrange pick up and he will have a tax document ready for you at pick up. Good luck!
