Bathroom renovation questions
Hi
I know there are previous posts on this, but I was hoping for a more recent perspective and additional recommendations. I have a small bathroom 4x7 that needs a gut reno. I have most of my fixtures/materials picked out but need assistance with the following:
1. any good sources for modern, clean lined bathroom vanities that won't break that bank? I'd love a glossy white one ... online or showroom recommendations welcome ...
2. How long should the process take from start to finish?
3. Can you recommend a contractor who can do a solid job (the wall tile I have picked out is a tad complicated, but the rest of the reno should be straightforward -- oh I am replacing the tiny tub with a walk in shower...)
4. My budget is around 10k, doable?
Thanks in advance
Comments
2. Mine took about 2 weeks from demo to completion.
3. I have a guy who did mine and a few others and he is great. If you need insured and licensed he'll do it through his boss (he works for a big contractor) which will be more expensive but if you take him by himself, it'll be much much cheaper. He did my whole apartment with me dealing with him directly as well as doing work for my sister, my best friend and 2 others that I know and all were very satisfied. When are you planning on getting things started?
4. 10K with materials or just labor?

pottery barn has great bathroom fixtures that look a lot more expensive. Very similar to Restoration Hardware but half the price.

Kensingtonian,
Would love to get your guy's info ... and hoping 10k for both materials and labor (although I know I am looking at about 5k for materials alone) ...
Thanks

Hello,
I'd like to take a look at your project. I am a master builder working for recession prices of only $25 an hour.
You can take a look at some of my work here:
You'll have to cut and paste the address because Brownstoner breaks the end off.

Whatever you do, make sure you get a good tiler. And inspect the corners and edges when they're done to make sure they are neat. I didn't and the messy job the tilers did still bother me a year later.

Oleg 347-583-0523. His tiling work is impeccable. He has a perfectionist personality and I haven't seen him leave a job unless it was spotless. If you like his price and him and want to see his work, drop me an email BKJester3@aol.com and you can come and see what he did at my friends' or mine apartments.

if you are filing this with the dob, your budget is undoable considering that your fixtures cost 5g...also, since you describe your tile pattern as 'a tad complicated" , you will need to pay top dollar for your tile guy, or you will end up with a third rate job...good luck

thanks all ...
what needs filing with the DOB if I am not moving any plumbing?
thanks

are you really replacing a bathtub with a walk in shower without moving any plumbing?
Posted by: pmmtenement at June 30, 2009 4:02 AM
I never moved plumbing and never filed and many people do it without filing. Not sure if it's the legal way to do things but I did it :o).

yes, I'm not sure how removing a tub affects plumbing? shower head stays in the same spot, as does drain in the floor ...

You should be fine greenwoody, I was...My best friend had that done. Removed tub, installed shower base and stand up shower. Oleg did a great job. Again, if you decide on hiring him, shoot me an email and I'll arrange for you to look at the finished job at my friends place.

One of the least expensive, yet immediately saves you money, home improvements is a bathroom bidet sprayer. The ultimate bathroom retreat is not complete without a bidet or better yet....the hand bathroom bidet sprayer. The hand sprayer gives you superior control and water volume and if the bathroom was not designed to allow for a bidet(the majority of them) it offers the convenience of installation on the existing toilet AND you don't have to get up and move every time! You will pay for it many times over in toilet paper savings. Available at www.bathroomsprayers.com.

Greenwoody,
I'm also looking for a reputable tile guy to do the floor in my bathroom. Did you decide to go with the recommendation from this exchange? Would love to know if it worked out-
thanks

My husband remodeled our small bathroom by himself. It took him a month; some contractors gave us 2 weeks estimate(including demolition).
All material including tiles (floor + walls) + toilet + glass vanity + shower cabin was total $6000
Our bathroom picture is here: http://www.all-bathroom-vanities.com/mosivaseclan.html
Regarding to clean line of vanities I love this line: http://www.all-bathroom-vanities.com/dosiva.html

I think 10k will be required for both materials and labour cost.
