The St George Tower

What a great blog! This group seems to cover all things Brooklyn.... I am the webmaster of The St George Tower Oral History Experiment and we would LOVE to capture everyones relatives stories (especially the ones they have never told before--the secret ones) that took place at the St George Hotel. We want to see any pictures you guys may have. Please invite the more technically able seniors in your family to subscribe so they can share, listen, and see wonderful photo albums uploaded by our nearly 200 members. Simply go to: www.TheStGeorgeTower.2ya.com and in a few clicks you will have access to marvelous snapshots, gorgeous formal portraits (typically done by Nickabocker Photo Studio on Clinton Street), charming first person memories, sensational newspaper stories and clippings, a growing collection of memorabilia, interesting facts, fun trivia (which famous people stayed there) and a few "secret stories". The current topics being discussed: The 1995 Fire (one of the largest in New York history--18 alarms), The Debutante Yuletide Balls, and, as always, The Pool. For the less technically adept amongst the seniors in your family, why not talk to them and take notes (or record them--use your cell phone), then post their memories for them to be filed in the oral history archives so their memories and photos can live on forever on the internet? Tell them that their entire photo albums will be scanned for them if they send an email to StGeorgeTower_tech@mac. Those that remember the St George in the 1930s, when the tower first opened, are slipping away. We want to reach out to them especially!!! Were they one of the jazz babies dancing at the open air rooftop nightclub? (AND DO THEY HAVE PHOTOS???? ) As the webmaster for this oral history experiment, I'd be happy to work cooperatively with this blog by adding your URL to our related links section. I've enjoyed reading all the posts here and do not want to lure your members away, just invite them to come take a look and to TAG THEIR ELDERS for stories and photos to archive there. Warm regards, respectfully, The Dragon Slayer
