Park Slope Parking Space

My husband and I just purchased a condo in Park Slope and we will need to find a place to park our car. We only use it for weekend trips out of the city and don't need to have the parking spot on our block or anything.

Can anyone offer advice on how to find a parking space to rent? Anyone have experience doing a monthly rate at a parking garage, are they negotiable? Are there other options than a parking garage?

Unless you're intent on garage space, introduce yourself to your neighbors and ask them how they handle alternate side. If you use your car only on weekends, you might find street parking easier than you expect. Meet your neighbors regardless.

I am located in windsor terrace but I have a large garage that I am looking to rent. I am located on Greeenwood Ave and East 7th. One block from the F train... Email me if you are interested. Katieapartments@yahoo.com

I have lived in the Slope for four years and have rented a parking spot in two different garages for almost the entire time I've lived here. When I first started renting a spot, it was a very tight market. There were wait lists for the garages in the North Slope and negotiating was out of the question. I decided to give up my spot in the garage a couple of months ago because my car is older, and I thought it would be a good way to shave quite a bit off my monthly expenses. It turns out street parking is easier than I thought -- for the most part. When I notified the garage that I would no longer be parking there, I was told that there was another spot available for quite a bit less than what I was paying. I declined. So I think, not surprisingly, the market for parking spots has softened along with the real estate market. If you decide to rent a spot, do not be afraid to negotiate.

You know, I have been finding parking a lot easier lately also! I was going to ask you guys about this. And someone else on one of the recent open threads said that they found that traffic during their commute to Jersey City from Brooklyn was also getting lighter, theorizing it could very well be a reflection of the times. (Sorry I can't remember who that was).

I also observed that my trips upstate have also seen less traffic. Hmm, maybe that poster was on to something.
new2, I guess you can always try the street for a while to see if it's feasible (if you trust the car on the street)
