more theft lately?
Just reading the link about the Park Slope robberies and then noticed all the car thefts below...I've parked my car on NYC streets for 15 years and never had a problem...is there an increase in car theft or was I just being naive all this time?

My best friend's dads car got broken into a couple weeks back. 13th st 7/8. They broke the window and took the GPS. Probably economy???

There have been a lot of car break-ins all over to steal GPS units. At our last Lefferts Manor Assoc. meeting the Pct. Commander suggested not just removing your GPS when you park, but also removing the bracket--if thieves see that they'll break in to search for a hidden GPS.

I feel like broken into is one thing, my cars have been broken into (one time they took half of my tapes - yes this was quite a few years back - and left others. They left Elvis Presley and Indigo Girls, I remember). But stolen outright is creepier, IMO. Ah well, maybe time to get the club or something - or do those things not work?

I have a built-in thingy (a Prius) that works as a GPS...is this the same? I always remove my EZPass and any other things in my car but I wondered about that built-in screen.

In the 80's, my roommate started leaving her car unlocked after someone broke the windows and cut themselves and got blood all over her seats. Probably a drug addict...during the height of the AIDS epidemic. Nice.
Anyway, I know it doesn't have anything to do with actual cars being stolen. Haven't heard anything, but a few years ago, carjacking was all the rage.

Somebody in Bay ridge takes off wheels from new Hondas in Bayridge. I saw second Honda in month. Bustards jack up one side of the car and take two wheels. Given, that i see a small subset of Hondas in Bayridge so I see only fraction of the stolen wheels. this is really sad.

I leave my valuables in plain sight with the windows down. Crooks think it's a setup and leave it alone ;)

I have the Crappy Old Truck Loss Prevention System. I am always forgetting to remove the valuables in my truck, which can't be locked anymore. Never have problems with anything but tools.

Bobjohn we have the same thing in South Midwood (though, I'm not sure its just honda's). Two cars in the past two weeks (yikes).
