How'd You Miss This?

Park Slope Parents is in an uproar because Bar Toto - serving alcohol - is near a public school. See Only The Blog Knows Brooklyn.

man, if that's true, I'm glad I left the Slope. One of the most tolerant nabes in the city has become a caricature of itself.

Jeez, and I was hoping my son could quaff a couple on his way home, puts him in such a better mood.

yes, because a few outspoken posters to an internet group are obviously representative of all of park slope.

Dear God, think of the children.

doesn't your comment denton, make you even less tolerant than the people you are complaining about?

OTBKB article is all paraphrased, so it's hard to tell how many parents objected to the bar vs those that thought it was no problem. Could be just a couple of nuts that objected vs a majority that was rational, based on their post.
Sometimes wonder if journalists / bloggers post deliberately ridiculous stuff on PS sites, just to generate easy content!
I find a lot of city parents can be v.annoying in expecting everything to adapt to them. Not limited to Park Slope.

Very sane, z. Anyone want to nominate themselves as representative posters of the Brownstoner community and speak for all of us? It is always easy to cherrypick and caricature. Wake me when there is a real threat to the liquor license.

move the school to another location

There you go close the bars but leave the pot houses open

If children learned to drink responsibly at a younger age there'd be less binge drinking in college and as adults.

Is the argument that kidz are going to model the behavior that they see on display at the expensive restaurant?

Posted by: Park Place at May 5, 2009 8:26 PM

Sorry to ruin everyone's fun but: there was one initial Carrie Nation-style post, from someone asking others to report the bar to whichever authority is in charge of regulating these things. After that one post, there were about 8 or 9 replies all saying they supported having a new restaurant, loved the other bars by the owner, didn't see what the big deal was, etc.

So, only one nutty person on PSP for that topic at least. You'll have to find some other reason to gripe about local moms. (Mother's Day is coming soon, after all!)

First of all the new place will be called Bar Tini not Bar Toto or Bar Tano. But do not let the name deceive you because it isn't so much a bar as it is a restaurant(because of the lack of a full liquor license, due to the proximity to the school). More of a pannini/ cappuccino bar which some parents may appreciate after dropping off or waiting to pick up. There will be seven beers on tap and two dozen wines, but NO hard liquor. It was tastefully designed and is an asset to the surrounding blocks that could use a friendly place like Bar Tini.

It is an elementary school across the street that has the main entrance more than 200 feet away.
