Break up cement patio on Sat?

This may be a stupid question, but id rather ask then get fined. We are building a house in Bay Ridge. Im wondering if I can go there and break up a cement patio on a Saturday with a hammer. No power tools. Is it ok to make a little noise like this on the weekend? Or can I get a fine for doing some sort of "unpermited weekend work"?

Are your neighbors nice? If so, then sure proceed. Just go tell them first, preferably with a nice plate of cookies or something.

We just broke up our front walkway this week in Bay Ridge. We didn't have a permit. There is no law stating that you can't do this. I've lived here for 4 years and people go about what they have to do and then stop at around diner time. I let my next door neighbor know when we are doing work because he works at night and sleeps in the day. Just so he knows whether to sleep in the front of his house or in the back.

One and two family home owners can work on weekends without variance permits. Sidewalk work requires permit. I think it costs about $75 and you can pick it up yourself from DOB. The fine for work without permit for sidewalk work is $800.
