recommend a car mechanic please.

I have burning break pads. I can smell burnt rubber when I drive and the break light is on. I had this problem a year ago and went to Pep Boys on 4th Ave. I think they are a scam.

Can you recommend a good mechanic around Boerum Hill area who you trust, have had good experiences with?

Thanks

Lorenzutti, on Sackett between 3rd and 4th. I always take my car there. They mostly do foreign cars (lots of volvos, go figure with the slope right there). Don't expect a lot of organization or someone to answer the phone every time you call, but in my experience they are honest. They are not particularly cheap.

I brought my car there last week to get car seat latch points installed. They had three some old ones lying around and did it for free in about 15 minutes. Wouldn't take my money.

And they are nice guys.

I have gone to Alba auto repair on 4th ave (1st/Garfield) with 4 different cars over 15 years living in Brooklyn. Dmitri could have sold out to the condo developers during the bubble but they carry on. Good trustworthy guys.

Midas on 4th Ave (around 27th Street) is solid. Rich, the manager/owner is honest and his guys are good. For brakes and exhaust systems, you can trust them.

In Prospect Heights, on St. Marks between Underhill and Washington: Nok Auto Repair. The first really decent, trust-worthy auto shop I've found... The owner is Rohan, and he's a real stand-up guy.

OMG! I agree with Lechacal!! Lorenzutti isn't cheap, but he's honest and high quality. No crappy shortcuts, and when he occasionally gets it wrong, he deals fairly. I've been going to him for 16 years.

'sup slopefarm!

I actually bought my car (used volvo) from a guy who kind of hangs hit hat at Lorenzutti (no official affiliation though). I'm very happy with the car and the guys there always do great work.

I took the car to Bay Ridge Volvo once to do something (cut new keys) that Lorenzutti didn't have the machine for. I swore never ever to return. They charged me six hundred freakin' bucks to cut two keys. There were like 10 itemized charges for a simple operation. "oh yeah, and it's $100 for each blank key..."

Any mechanic will do but whatever you do stay away from the PepBoys on 4th Ave. I had a terrible expierience with them last year too. The guy at the fron desk always says you need this and that to have your car in perfect condition and you never pass an inspection unless you pay them another thousand dollars in bogus fixes.

Jackal,

Was he a medium sized white guy, balding with short hair? He seems to be some kind of parts supplier and installs car radios and sound systems. There is a little constellation of cronies affiliated with Roberto's shop. Also, Roberto has me swearing by Gino for auto body work. Expensive but does excellent work and knows how to make everything work with insurance.
