location of front fence.

I want to build front fence and need to know, how far forward I can put it. The property line goes right thought the front wall of the house. The other house close by has fence 3' in front of the property line and more houses down the block have fence 6' in front of the property line. Who can help me with determining legal limits on the property line? Should I call architect? How much would it cost and would you provide any recommendation. The place is in Bay Ridge. Should I consult with community board instead?

definitely call the community board. If they don't have the exact answer, they will be able to tell you where to find it.

You could also just put in a fence along the line your neighbors have selected. The odds of anyone objecting are pretty slim.

Once you've settled on what you can do, I recommend Ricardo's Iron Works for the fence - 718 499 1153

when you bought the house did you get a survey and title insurance? Do you have a stoop on the front of your house? Most houses the building line is not the property line but your survey will tell you. Also the government on the website should have your lot and plot's dimensions. Your CB doesn't know your property although there may be a custom in your neighborhood that allows you to encroach onto the city's property...

You need to hire a certified surveyor. If your fence is on any portion of your neighbors land they can make you move it.
