herbs in brooklyn
Looking for large basil, oregano etc plants at reasonable prices, is the farmer's market my best bet or does somewhere have a good selection at competetive prices?

Usually HD & Lowes...also try Brooklyn Terminal Market if you have a car.

The green market is a great option though... I've gotten a lot of good plants there.

I saw a guy walk into the famous DiFara's Pizza on Avenue J and buy a bunch of basil from the proprietor for a dollar.

Terminal Mkt has more selection once they get them in & you can get there by bus. Prices are slightly lower at BTM than at GAP green mkt.

you can also try the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. Admission on weekends is free before noon. Money goes to a great cause - the BBG. Become a member (tax deduction) and get a reduced rate on plants.

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Annual Plant Sale is next Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday and they will have a spectacular amount of herbs, vegetables as well as annuals and perennials. I got great basil, oregano and rosemary plants there last year. Their stuff is top quality and it's for a great cause.

BBG and Grand Army Plaza greenmarket. Prices are okay, but what's more important is that the plants are pretty healthy. I won't buy plants any more from the Home Depot, because they have typically died on me, so that's a lousy return on investment. Have fun!
