decor advice needed-dining rm

Hi, I have a traditional looking dining room--tons of molding, parquet floors. I'd like a dining room table and chairs more on the modern side (think CB2ish more than Pottery Barnish), but I wondered whether it would look weird. Any tips, ideas, links to pics are appreciated!

Of course it will not look weird. It will look beautiful. Make the contrast high. Domino magazine used to feature tons of traditional interiors with modern furniture. This is a very popular trend.

Agree. "Go big or go home" as the kids say. If you're going with a contrasting style, go with a REALLY contrasting style. CB2, DWR, some of Room & Board's stuff is modern/simple.

Go for it!

I think it will look great. My friend has a very intact brownstone and decorated her home with very modern furnishings. Looks great!!

Mix it up! Eclectic always looks better than "matchy" in any setting. In my similar DR, I have a big farm table with traditional repro chairs and two mid-century modern buffets.

I agree with all other posts... modern would be a great mix to the traditional. Drive the point home with a deep modern color on the walls to contrast with the beautiful moldings and maybe large, yet traditional chandelier/ lighting for even more contrast. Good luck!
