Yes, I was talking with a friend who's quite active in tenant=landlord issues, on the tenant side. Her take on this is that it's clear that the landlords were illegally converting apartments out of rent-stab. I'm sure we'll get plenty of disagreements.

If you have a 220 outlet available, rent the 220VAC jack hammer. Get a hilti if they have them. If you're in Brooklyn I usually use Big Al's tool rental on 3rd avenue at like 17th Street. They're cheaper than the big box places and you're supporting a local business.
