Leske's SUCKS

For those who love Leske’s bakery in Bay Ridge so much I say you have no idea how good cake or pastry supposed to taste!

I went there for the first time last week, early as advised by others since they sell out quick, and was nothing but disappointed.

Woman taking my order looked like she wanted to kill me, no smile on her face, or any other one, for that matter.

Every single piece of pastry, cookie or roll was handled without a glove following by handling the register and than back to the pastries!

The bakery didn’t smell like a bakery, the bread and everything else was cold, and I walked into the door at 9:00 am.

You want a good bakery go to Fortunato in Williamsburg.

Although I've never been to Leske's and I could be totaly wrong, but it doesn't appear to sound like an Italian bakery. I think each nationality is brought up with certain taste buds. I having a sweet tooth... have sampled many French, Chinese, Turkish, Arab and Jewish bakeries and for me.. nothing compares to an Italian bakery. On many occasions even what I consider to be a terrible Italian bakery, is still by far better than what most would consider a great bakery of another nationality.

completely agree.

True Giovanna, Leske's is Norwegian and as much as some of their products were ok, the fact that they were mean and unsanitary turned me away.

Other news, since we’re on the subject, does anyone know Angelo’s in Bensonhurst?

The bakery was there for probably 30 or so years. The woman was like a Mussolini to her employees and not that long ago the bakery has closed. The sign said “we retired”. In reality the department of health came and closed their door for being unsanitary!

In one respect I’m glad since the mouth on those people was way too big and their goods were not that good at all.

The best was when they charged 5.00 for an iced coffee lol….

Court Pastry, on Court Street, is great.

Caputo's, also on Court, in Carroll Garden's is pretty solid too.

I believe it's located on 18th Ave in the low 70's. Also across the street and approx. to block over is another great Italian bakery (I can't think of the name). They make excellent cakes and have a large selection of Italian ice cream & ices.

the only thing I like in Leske's is the donoughts. Their great.

For a delicious bakery try Ivy Bakery on 87th and 3rd. Cupcakes are out of this world!!! www.ivybakery.com. Better than Magnolia's. Plus she bakes preservative free.

OH and Robicelli's on 3rd and 86th gets their breakfast pastries and breads from Balthazar in Soho. Delicious

Does anyone know a real French bakery in Brooklyn that uses real butter, and lots of it, in their croissants and offers pastry with fruit that is barely sweetened? In my experience, the Italian places use mixes, dough conditioner, and margarine. I'm sure the whipped cream in their sponge cake is real but I don't care for those types of cakes.

Balthazar leaves me completely nonplussed. It's a pretty place but the pastry and bread have no flavor. Ceci-Cela down the street is the less celebrated but much more authentic French bakery.

Mazzola, the Italian bakery in Carroll Gardens, has wonderful bread, especially the "whole wheat" loaf, which is actually part white. Don't get anything else there. The cookies come out of a box.

Go to Saint Germain Resturaunt for your Fench Pastry. They have a Pastry Chef on site. You can take it to go. Their coffee isn't bad either. The best selection is on the weekends. They are on 3rd and 83rd

I really love the jelly donuts at Leske's. After having one, you realize that Dunkin Donuts has been screwing you on jelly for years.

As for cupcakes, I had the best ones I've ever had in my life at Robicelli's last weekend, and I've had every one in this neighborhood, and possibly Manhattan as well.
