Friends of Brownstoner Gathering

Friends of Brownstoner Gathering

Our next gathering of Brownstoner bloggers will take place Thursday, March 19 at Floyd NY. People will begin arriving at 6pm, but feel free to drop by whenever you can. We plan on staying late. We will have nametags on which you can write your login name. Please see me for a wristband that will allow you to get a discount on drinks all night long.

If I use two different login names like DIBS used to, which login name should I put on my name tag? The notorious one, or the occasional commenter one?

Posted by: DarkStar at March 9, 2009 10:18 AM

One on each lapel.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 9, 2009 10:20 AM

Good one, both of you!

DarkStar, whichever you like. Or you can choose to not identify yourself, even by your login name. Whatever makes you comfortable.

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 9, 2009 10:26 AM

Thanks for being our cruise director, as usual, Biff, and for scoring the drinks discount.

Count me in as a likely, but not definite, attendee. I look forward to seeing everyone.

Posted by: slopefarm at March 9, 2009 10:48 AM

I just don't want to be referred to as a "FOB" or a "FOD" either.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 9, 2009 11:06 AM

Is that Bayridgegirl? Using the force? Or bowling?
Count me also as a maybe-to-likely, but not-definite attendee.

And many thanks to you for organizing again Biff.

Posted by: Nokilissa at March 9, 2009 11:58 AM

Great. I'll be there, maybe with bf if he doesn't have a book sale.

Posted by: mopar at March 9, 2009 12:08 PM

What if you read but don't post? Should you put "lurker" on your tag?

Posted by: christopher at March 9, 2009 3:29 PM

If I stop by with a stroller, would that be too weird?

I don't know if Floyds has a policy on that or not.

Posted by: Heather at March 9, 2009 3:36 PM

I plan on attending, not 100% but I will try. Maybe I can get the Mrs. to come along.

Do we have a name for the party yet? How about the world has ended, but we don't care party?

Posted by: Adam Dahill at March 9, 2009 3:36 PM

Biff, do you have a thing for boce?

Posted by: Adam Dahill at March 9, 2009 3:37 PM

Biff;

Thanks for organizing. I intend to be there.

Posted by: benson at March 9, 2009 3:37 PM

i will be there but realized that since my roommate will be out of the country that week i will have to stop home after work and walk the dogs first.

*r*

Posted by: PitbullNYC at March 9, 2009 3:38 PM

Only if the What is going.

Posted by: Prodigal_Son at March 9, 2009 3:38 PM

Noki/mopar, hope to see you both there.

christopher, yes. And for those who do that, they must walk around and eavesdrop on each conversation but are not allowed to open their mouths. :-)

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 9, 2009 3:38 PM

Heather, I suspect you aren't serious, but if so, they are very laid back and accommodating there and I'm sure they wouldn't mind. Otherwise, you can park it at the nearby Moxie Spot (the stroller, not the kid) and walk over.

Adam, I hope you can make it. I really enjoyed talking to you last time. The pic above is actually a picture of Floyd NY, bocce court and all.

benson, looking forward to meeting you!

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 9, 2009 3:41 PM

Rob, I know from last time you're a gamer and am sure you'll still have plenty of time to hang around for quite awhile even after walking the dogs.

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 9, 2009 3:42 PM

I'm semi-serious, Biff. I would love to meet all of you, but I suspect Mr. Heather might not be crazy about me taking the tot to meet a bunch of strange people from the internets... so I'd have to set up child care, which is something we never do in the evenings -- and so, maybe not.

Posted by: Heather at March 9, 2009 3:47 PM

And are you saying you're a gamer too, Biff?

Posted by: Heather at March 9, 2009 3:48 PM

is WHAT coming? i am not sure alcohol will mix well with his meds.

Posted by: randolph at March 9, 2009 3:50 PM

benson, you're going? If I go that'll make 2 sane conservatives in attendance ;)

Posted by: christopher at March 9, 2009 3:51 PM

Heather, someone brought a baby last time. I don't remember who it was.
But then again, it was in Park Slope.

If I go, and as I don't drink, I'll be happy to watch your baby while you get drunk :-)

Posted by: bayridgegirl at March 9, 2009 3:51 PM

Heather, it would be great if you could make an appearance, if even for a short time. You've been a fascinating poster here for some time.

Am I a gamer? If you're asking if I plan on staying relatively late and enjoying a few pints and lively conversation, then definitely I am. If you're asking if I play video games competitively all day long, then certainly I am not.

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 9, 2009 3:52 PM

sane conservatives = oxymoron
:-)

christopher, I hope to see you there as well.

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 9, 2009 3:54 PM

I'll be there so that now makes 3 sane conversationalists. As long as there are two it works because you can't have a conversation with yourself or you're definitely not sane.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 9, 2009 3:57 PM

What do sane conservatives drink??

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 9, 2009 3:58 PM

ha ha, biff.

well played, well played :)

Posted by: christopher at March 9, 2009 3:58 PM

I was just asking if Wrath of the Lich King had any deep personal significance or not, lol. Not that it did for me. I play Warhammer.

Thanks for the offer, bayridge -- kid is past the watching age though and into the dumping drinks on the floor and screaming that she wants to leave. Or wants to watch Noggin. Or what have you...

I'll see if I can find a sitter.

Posted by: Heather at March 9, 2009 4:02 PM

I will try to get there! I haven't been to any previous gatherings so I'm curious as hell about who you all really are.

Posted by: Park Sloper at March 9, 2009 4:03 PM

christopher, thank you for not saying "well stroked", which would have led this thread down a completely different path.

"What do sane conservatives drink??"
Republican Kool-Aid?

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 9, 2009 4:03 PM

Park Sloper, great. Please do try to make it. The last one was extremely fun - I think all who attended would agree.

Heather, we'll just ask the bartender to turn off the Premier League Football and turn on Spongebob Squarepants.

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 9, 2009 4:04 PM

Park Sloper...its really a hoot. No one turns out like you might imagine them. I think everyone always had a good time.

And we all are a lot more civil to each other (except BRG)after we've met and are back on brownstoner!!! :)

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 9, 2009 4:04 PM

Damn right....After meeting everyone, I've become ruder to them on Brownstoner.
I've also realized that everyone really is an Asshat.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at March 9, 2009 4:08 PM

I hope there's some hot looking kitchen help at Floyd's.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 9, 2009 4:11 PM

Does that girl sitting at the bar have a tramp stamp???

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 9, 2009 4:12 PM

Forget Spongebob. Bob the Builder might work for Heather's kid and be appropriately thematic for the Brownstoner crowd. Extreme Makeover Home Edition meets Thomas the Tank Engine. If that doesn't work, there's always the original Scooby Doo series, in which the purported ghost usually turns out to be a skanky developer trying to lower land values, scare an old widowed matron into selling prime property or trump up a fraudulent claim to title.

Posted by: slopefarm at March 9, 2009 4:19 PM

So how many of you have actually met and how many times? I kind of want to go but I am scared.

Posted by: boofer at March 9, 2009 4:25 PM

We had two get togethers boofer...maube 8-10 the first time and more like 20 the second time. It was great fun.

boofer...I got another email from the broker on that dean st. clapboard...i posted it in the Open Thread today.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 9, 2009 4:29 PM

boofer, I believe almost everyone, with a few exceptions, met each other for the first time at the last get together. But given how familiar most people were with each other's posts, it was remarkably easy and very interesting to meet and talk to each other. Nothing to be scared of. Some people indicated they were a bit hesitant to go last time, but after the event, those individuals unanimously agreed they were very pleased they showed up. It was tons of fun.

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 9, 2009 4:31 PM

We're not that insular, boo. We had a gathering in October, and I think some of the old timers got together another time quite a while back. Nothing to be scared of unless what shows up off his meds and packing heat. ;) That didn't happen the last time.

I didn't talk to everyone, last time, but I did talk to Biff, BRG, DIBS, wasder, masterplvmber, smokeychimp, montrose, rob, Adam Dahill, Bob Marvin, turtlejam19, rh, cobblehiller and better half (very briefly -- sounds like a variety show act), among others. An enjoyable evening, no reason not to do it again.

Posted by: slopefarm at March 9, 2009 4:32 PM

Boofer, nothing to be scared of.
While I'm generally a shy person and not very talkative and don't drink. I had a nice time at the last get together. I was very hesitant in going but I'm glad I did, as it was fun. You can just go for a few and if you feel uncomfortable leave.

Everyone I met that night was very nice.
I might not be at this gathering and will miss meeting some of the people I've grown fond of and enjoy conversing with.

So go and have fun.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at March 9, 2009 4:40 PM

We'll see..I may just show up with a The What nametag just to throw everybody off.

Posted by: boofer at March 9, 2009 4:58 PM

Can I bring an inflatable doll to take the place of The What? Maybe I'll make some Asshats for all to wear.

Posted by: Adam Dahill at March 9, 2009 5:10 PM

I have the sneaking suspicion that each and every one of these Brownstoner login names actually belong to DIBS... including mine. March 19th there will be one guy drinking alone at the bar with 67 "My name is" tags stuck to his chest.

Posted by: IMBY at March 9, 2009 5:27 PM

More beer for me then!!!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at March 9, 2009 5:36 PM

"Can I bring an inflatable doll to take the place of The What?"

Someone will probably take it home and score.
The What gets PWNED!

Posted by: bayridgegirl at March 9, 2009 5:40 PM

I was the one who came last time with a baby. I was desperate to come so I had to bring the baby as my husband was out of town. This time I will come with him and not the baby. I am a lurker. I've tried to post regularly but just can't get the hang of it. Anyway, it is a pleasure to read these posts and I look forward to meeting all of you.

Posted by: gab at March 9, 2009 10:56 PM

Hey Biff, thanks for coordinating. I hope to be there with the wife.

Posted by: denton at March 10, 2009 7:15 AM

If I come will I be the oldest and grumpiest guy there?

Posted by: Petebklyn at March 10, 2009 9:06 AM

gab, I remember you and your adorable little one. You were so friendly and enthusiastic! Looking forward to seeing you again.

denton, look forward to seeing you and the Mrs. again as well.

Petebklyn, not even close if benson and sam show up! Please try to attend if you can.

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 10, 2009 9:46 AM

I'll be there. I had a great time last time, and in addition to the people slopefarm mentioned, I also had a great time talking to johnife, cmu, and mopar. Rob was there too, but if he remembers it, his liver must be made of steel.

I'm looking forward to meeting lots of regulars who didn't make it there last time. I'm actually pretty shy in person, and don't drink much, so I won't be standing on a table lecturing anyone. Fear not.

Posted by: Montrose Morris at March 10, 2009 11:08 AM

That's right, Montrose. I forgot to mention johnife, Denton (who mentioned himself) and Mrs. D, and I think Pete of Bed Stuy reno was there, but I am not sure. Mr. B was there briefly with Mrs. B. Are you in again, Mr. B?

P.S., Floyd is definitely downhill from 5th Ave, so careful on your way over, rob.

Posted by: slopefarm at March 10, 2009 11:41 AM

Yeah, slopefarm, Pete from BS reno was there. He was very tall. How could we forget Mr and Mrs B? Lisa was there too.

Don't forget your artisanal hay this time, slopey!

Posted by: Montrose Morris at March 10, 2009 11:52 AM

Too wet this winter for hay. Organic heirloom 'shrooms in the cellar. Oh, and I'm curing some free range South Slope opossum bacon by the boiler.

Posted by: slopefarm at March 10, 2009 12:02 PM

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 10, 2009 12:27 PM

Hmmm, must be small pieces of bacon after you fry it up. I wonder how raccoon would do. We get 'em the size of pitbulls here.

I occasionally have an artesian spring in the south west corner of the Casa Montrosa cellar. I'm thinking of bottling it to sell at Fairway and Whole Foods.

Posted by: Montrose Morris at March 10, 2009 12:31 PM

Biff, MacD wasn't at the 2nd get together, but she and Nokilissa were at the first. MacD hasn't been around lately on Brownstoner. I hope she is doing ok.

Posted by: Montrose Morris at March 10, 2009 1:15 PM

Thanks MM. I'll scratch her name from the records!

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 10, 2009 2:03 PM

hey biff (i believe you're british)

i'm a gooner. this is a hotspur supporters bar. can i still go?

Posted by: Danny Noonan at March 10, 2009 3:54 PM

Danny, don't tell anybody but I'm actually Canadian (also an American citizen now).

But close enough; we still have the Queen on our currency and are a member of the Commonwealth.

You can go no matter what team you support. You'll be way too busy schmoozing to notice any scores. Plus, the footballers in Europe will all be fast asleep by the time we arrive.

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 10, 2009 4:20 PM

the chicken will be there from early on. Can't stay too late though as my bodyclock is permanently set 4-5 hours ahead.
