Ceiling fan/light - pls. help!

We have a ceiling fan/light in our place that was professionally installed. We've recently started having a problem with the light function. Namely, the light seems to go on and off or dim (although there is no dimmer) independently of the controls. In fact it appears to be controlled, at least in part, either by our Blackberries (i.e., upon receipt of new mail), or mysteriously by the television remote control. Particularly annoying is the fact that once the Blackberry has caused the light to dim, there is no way we can get it to un-dim. Has anyone ever had an issue like this? Or does anyone have any suggestions about how to fix this?

See if you can change the frequency that the fan/light's control is using. The user's manual will let you know if this is possible, or you can call the manufacturer.

Some models have this option, others do not.

Good luck.

My ceiling fan does this occasionally as well. Fan will turn on, lights will turn off. Doesn't happen often enough for it to bother me.

jcarch is right. My model of fan has a tiny array of toggle switches in the remote and in the fan body. Try changing the position of a switch or two and your problem will likely go away. Just make sure that the positions are the same in both the fan and the remote it it won't work any more.

Could your place be haunted?
