Cabinet recycling
We will soon be replacing the kitchen cabinets in our rental apt. Does anyone know of any service/organization that would reccyle the old wood cabinents? I hate to just throw them out in the trash.

Look up build it green. I think they are in Queens. I think you need to deliver the cabinets.
BTW, if you haven't picked the new cabinets, we put Ikea cabinets in our rental and we get tons of compliments every time we show the place. Better than stuff that costs twice as much from HD and it all fits in the back of a van. We put in four uppers and four lowers, plus toe kicks, ends etc. for $700.

Thanks for the info on Build it Green.
HI Slopefarm. We are definitely putting in IKEA cabinets. Why pay more when they look so nice? I'm picking them up on Friday cause they told me that they are starting a 10% off sale that day. Cool beans.

I tried build it green to take my old cabinets, but they weren't willing to drive out to pick them up. However, put them on craiglist and you should get plenty of willing takers. I got rid of two kitchens that way, and I even earned a little extra $$. a little.

NHS of East Flatbush and Bed-Stuy have great home maintenance classes where cabinets are used to teach homeowners how to hang them. Maybe they'd be interested in a donation? Also, see this site for lots of possible places to donate: http://www.nyc.gov/html/nycwasteless/html/new_homes/new_homes.shtml
