bamboo for containers?

Hey All,
I'm in search of a hardy (perennial) bamboo that can survive in a standard window box style container. It needs to be tough enough to make it through the winter. I've seen bamboo growing in front yards around the neighborhood, but never in a pot. Oh, it also needs to be a variety that grows quite tall (5-6 feet).
Any suggestions? Thanks!

gardenweb.com has a whole bamboo forum. Having said that, the bamboo I bought a year ago based on a rec I got there is about dead.

depending on the winter, bamboo will do fine in containers. i've got 6 big bunches in my back patio, still going strong after 4 years, providing a nice screen (hiding neighbors cement slab). bamboo purchased at shannon's on ft. hamilton parkway. i think it's "golden"bamboo. it's not cheap, about $70 bucks for a smallish bunch.

i can second the garden web bamboo group. it was most helpful in getting me started. you may want to insulate containers as this will help roots from getting too dry/cold during brutal feb. nights. sun in summer helps, then, if you can, protect from wind in winter.

good luck.
