Backyard drainage

Our backyard drains pretty well, but last year it got clogged and we had standing water. Can anyone recommend a service or way to clear an external drain? We have had a lot of mosquitos in our yard and I dont think the water helps.

I cleared my garden drain when we first moved in 5 years ago. Just pulled the cover off, laid down on the ground and took out dirt using and trowel and my hands.

If I recall correctly I got about 3 small buckets of dirt out and completely cleared the drain.

Repeated last summer and got a smaller amount out. There were a few small roots in there so I treat it with Copper Sulfate (a root killer) once a year.

A dirty dirty job but my neighbor who did not do it had a clogged garden drain and in a big downpour had the water cross the threshold of her extension into the house and run 6 inches deep in a portion of the finished basement.

She subsequently had a pro come out and clear it. I imagine any sewer line guy could do it. We've used Bedford Sewers in the past for other sewer problems.

Hope this helps.

It is helpful to determine where on your main waste line the drain from the back yard joins. This assumes that your "drain" isn't a glorified "french drain"

If so you have a 2nd shot of clearing the waste line up from the basement, as opposed to down from the back yard.

Mostly try cleaning the drain by hand as above.

we had a similar issue with our front yard drain and tried a few of those $49.99 clogged drain services to no avail. Some one on Brownstoner recommended Python Drains and they fixed our issue for good. We have them out every year to proactively clear the drains now...I highly recommend them.

I have same problem.
What is the ball park price for snaking out drain line?
Anyone else use python?
