Source for fireplace covers

Source for fireplace covers

Sorry, I forgot the pictures in my earlier post:

I'm looking to replace the covers on two brownstone fireplaces (see pictures). Can anyone recommend a good source for these? (I've tried Eddie's in Clinton Hill and didn't find what I'm looking for.)

Also, can anyone recommend someone to install these replacements? What kind of contractor is best for this type of job?

A few of the antique shops along the 300 block of Atlantic have some occasionally as doe the place on Throop somehwere north of Hancock.

I actually got a really nice gilded one from www.urbanremainschicago.com not the typical summer cover but the open grid fancy ones so that i could put a gas fired coal unit in

Try Olde Good Things - http://www.oldegoodthings.com. They have the most extensive collection of architectural salvage in NYC. Many of the details they have are from brownstones and townhouses with mantles like yours. They are all over ebay too, but best to go to their 24th street store in Manhattan and look!

One of our Summer covers was heavily painted and we had Manny strip it to the bare metal. I use WD-40 once in a while and it looks amazing. The paint on your cover looks sad, but the cover itself might look fine if you strip it. Try that remedy before you replace your covers, you may like them after all. Good luck.

Many thanks, all.

RG is right. I left the existing summer covers on my other fireplaces....had them stripped and they look fantastic...really nice looking metal that looks great if you keep it clean.

Manny Lasalle can sell you the piece and install it. Check this site for his number or Google Brownstoner, Manny Lasalle and you'll get his number.

they sell them on ebay as well.
search under fireplace cover or iron fireplace cover.
you will usually get a better price than anywhere else even with the shipping charges.

I just saw a couple of these fireplace covers at the salvage place on Greene in Clinton Hill, just north of (I think) Classon. They're pretty common. I bet he's cheaper than Olde Good Things.

OP here. We met Manny last week and it looks as though he has what we need. I'll let you know how we get on. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Hi,
We restored a marble fireplace in our brownstone and now we're looking for an iron rim to line the interior of the marble (or perhaps a cover)? The opening is 32 inches high and 28 inches wide. Any ideas?
