Picture Framing
Howdy... Can anybody recommend a good picture framing place? Somebody who can do a nice and simple matte and frame for a largish lithograph?
I'd prefer a place in the Slope, but I am willing to travel if you know somebody who does particularly good work at a decent price.
Thanks!

Love the guys at Make a Frame on Atlantic, between Court and Clinton (I think--or maybe Clinton and Henry?). Super nice and helpful, do high quality work--we've had several pieces framed by them. Prices seem reasonable, although I can't really compare as I've never gone anywhere else...

My most excellent framer is in the city. General Art Company on Varick Street (185 Varick I believe). The owner's name is Gen Chen and he is great.

Make A Frame on Atlantic gets my vote. They do a fantastic job and are an absolute pleasure to work with.

I just used Yale Picture Frame on 5th btwn 27th and 28th and they did a great job at a super reasonable price. Salespeople were helpful but very straighforward - didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. A smaller poster with matting, UV glass, acid free backing and black wood frame ran about $75.

SanArt and Make-a-Frame are great. There's a closer one on 5th Ave by Biercraft. They do nice work but are mind-blowingly expensive.

San Art on 7th recently cut some nice archive-quality mattes on archive board for me, around 12" by 16", for about 20 dollars each.

I do my own framing for my photographs, but for large or odd size stuff I use this place, on 3rd Avenue, which I recommend highly:

I second Prints Charming on 4th St. I've had a handful of things framed there and have been very happy.

Best price on framing in the city is way up on the Upper East Side
1405 2nd av
They do all the framing for this art gallery, so they have UNMATCHABLE economies of scale.

I've used them for years! They've always been on craigslist!
