granite countertop scraps: where

Could anyone suggest a place in Brooklyn that might have some small pieces of granite, say 10-12 sq. ft. that could be cut into several smaller pieces to cover my existing countertop (pending saving enough for my future little kitchen reno)? Also, what might cutting 10-12 sq. ft. into three or four smaller pieces cost? Thanks.

(cost, including the stone itself, although maybe they'll give away the materials?)

If you really want to save for your kitchen reno, don't do granite. Go to Home Depot and buy one of those pre-made laminate slabs. Unless, of course, you think you'll use those granite scraps in the reno...

I've heard of Lee Stone, somewhere in Greenpoint (next to the BQE?) but have never been.

I have some scrap pieces of granite. They're yours if you can get them out of my basement.

Try All Marble and Granite (in NJ - you can find them online). All new granite counters for a standard size brownstone kitchen including measuring and installation was $1700. And start to finish (from picking out the stone to installation done) took 1 week - it was pretty impressive.

As a comparison point SMC Stone (in Greenpoint) quoted me $2300 for the same job with thinner stone.

Good luck.
