Cheap but Good-Looking Doors?
Hello, we need to replace our doors. The previous owner took out the b'stone doors, closed off the arc, and put in standard doors. We can't afford brownstone doors -- does anyone know of off-the-shelf doors that would blend in to a brownstone?

We have a pair of smaller exterior brownstone type doors with arched glass that are cheaper than new doors ($350.00 for the pair). Send us an email and I can get email you back the measurements to see if it works. Fred from Silver Fox Salvage. silverfoxenterprises@nycap.rr.com

Are you asking after doors, or asking about restoring the original architectural shape?
If you are just asking after doors, The Jeld-wen solid wood doors at Home Depot are perfectly innocuous, and fit right in with the molding, etc. in our house.
But any affordable door is going to come in a standard size. If you are looking to demolish the build-out that receives a standard door and get your original shape back, that's different.

Once again, try Eddie on Green at Grand. He has had some magnificent arched Brownstone doors in the past, and if he has none now, he will give you an idea of if, or when he might. Personally, I'd rather wait for original doors, (and spend the money to restore them), than buy new ones - they just don't look right on a brownstone.

I echo RG... Eddie on Green at Grand sold us some awesome solid antique wood doors for $20 each. Delivered for cheap, too! We stripped them, which was a pain, but worth it. He will have his guys strip them for you, for at least $100 more (don't remember how much, but it's probably still cheaper than many nice new doors). Also try Dalton who runs the antique shop the Victorian on Tompkins and Jefferson in Bed-Stuy. Great guy, good prices. Good luck!
