Trying to carpet my stairs
Hi, I would like to carpet my steps. I have about 12 steps leading from my first floor to the finished basement. I would like to try to do this myself as it does not sound like it should be that complicated.
Has anyone ever done this job before, if so can you tell me if it is more time consuming and difficult than I think?
I would expect I can get the job done in one day or less.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I did it with a runner. You need a carpet stretcher and a real good quality nail or staple gun. Start at the bottom and work your way up. It took me about an hour to do my 18 steps.

I just had Ceasar's carpet on 5th and Prospect Ave do my parlor to 2nd floor stairs with a remnant, and it looks really good, was done in 1 hour, and cost surprisingly little-
If you're willing to go the remnant route, this may be the kind of job that you can get someone to do for much cheaper than your time is worth.

P.S. Didn't write this to discourage you- I recently carpeted the ground floor of our place ourselves using a stretcher. It probably didn't take me that long, but I don't think I saved any money in the end. (Again- I wasn't using very high cost carpet.) That's why I priced it with installation when I bought the runner carpet- you may find that it costs about the same- or within 50-60 dollars...

Thanks ParkPlace, can you tell me roughly what it cost?

Hi,
I'd also like to add carpeting onto the steps of a stairway going from ground floor to finished basement but this is for a steel staircase.
I obviously can't use a staple gun or similar. Is there such a thing as stick-on carpet treds or something like that? Thanks - -
