PA cabin purchase
Is anyone familiar with purchasing a cabin in PA?
I am thinking of buying something in the Pocono area for the weekends et al.
Are there any taxes involved or tricks I should know about. Any insights are appreciated.

Typically different by county and I'm not in the Poconos. I'd just ask a local R.E. agent.

I know the question is not relevant for this blog but some people might be familiar. I thought I’d take a shot. Thanks.

Troll,
Few months ago I have rented a cabin from Kathy- see the link
http://www.evergreenpropmanage.com/TroutCreek-photos.html
It was one of the calmest weekends of all and me and my other half just loved it. She had an option to purchase the cabin or rent to own option, which I believe was around 900 a month, where 200 went towards the purchase.
I am still thinking about this cabin but would like to see more maybe better ones in the area as well.
She also mentioned that the cabin rents during all seasons so it helps you pay for the mortgage and taxes. She also has the locals clean after each rental.

Thanks for the tip karo. Ill see about renting the place before deciding to buy. I want to make sure my wife is ok with such a commitment.
I was thinking of getting a forclosure list from a PA bank. Ill let you know what I find out.

I strted looking at Poconos listings as well. You can pick up laefront proeprty under 200k, even less if you don't need to be on the water.

Then its not lakefront, Adam; which is why it would be less. :) :)

We have a place in Milford. Not actually the Poconos but I know the foreclosures have gone from 15 a month up to 75 in Pike Co.

could you suggest anything, location and decent pricing anywhere?

We paid less than 200k in Dingmans Ferry 4 years ago 3 beds 2 car garage 3 acres. the best and most expensive area is Twin Lakes, get lake front, very pricey. Drive down Raymondskill Rd to see what real money can build. Matamoras, one town north of Milford can get you a place on the Delaware River. If you like quaint small town living Milford itself is charming. 50% NYers. There are a lot of Associations, sort of like condos in the woods. If you find the right mix they're probably OK. We just saw to many big wheels in the yards. Maybe the best thing about the area is that there are no attractions that draw day trippers although it's only 1 hr 45min from Brooklyn. Even broken down Port Jervis across the Delaware has some get antique and junk stores, great architecture too except it's in NY, land of taxes.
Prices? I don't know specifics, but I'm sure you can get more for your buck than the Poconos. Depends on what you want. If your interested I can dig up the brokers name. She was a nice local lady.

Addendum: half of Milford is NY and over half of that half is Gay. Makes for ever increasing property values.

It was the local ReMax Realtor. 204 E Harford St. The two women we dealt with were Sharon Major and Vicki LaSpina. I don't think Sharon is still there maybe Vicki is. It's been 4 years. 570 296 9290 is the main number. Friends of ours have used the local Century 21 with good results also. The court house where they post the foreclosures is in walking distance from both offices. Ask anyone. Don't forget to have a dirty martini at the Hotel Fauchère.
