THE PLANE IS MOVING BECAUSE OF THE CURRENTS , I AM NOT SURE PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THIS...

I just read a report that CNN reports that a survivor thinks they they got everyone out safely and that the plane is now sinking. West Side Highway is closed in that area.

Posted by: slopefarm at January 15, 2009 4:16 PM

The plane is being moved by the current at a face pace.

Posted by: HOBOKENROCKS at January 15, 2009 4:18 PM

It remained above water for a good 15-20 minutes and the boats were there immediately.

Slope if thats true that would be great...

HOBO -- see the open thread, others are hearing that report, too. Post there that you have this thread going, so anyone who wants can meet up here.

Posted by: slopefarm at January 15, 2009 4:24 PM

cnn is reporting that everyone survived, im stoked

Posted by: HOBOKENROCKS at January 15, 2009 4:24 PM

I just pray that the "exposure" doesn't kill anyone. It's 19 out there and feels like 7. Water temp is 42.

HOBO, thanks for starting this thread to keep everyone informed. From the limited info, I would surmise the pilots must have done an incredible job in saving everyone with that landing.

Posted by: Biff Champion at January 15, 2009 4:34 PM

DIBS, it seems they got everyone out of the water very quickly, fortunately. If they survived the landing, I'm certain they'll survive the short time in the water. The first responders should get lots of praise.

no problem biff, its crazy to see something like that first hand but I am superhappy that the fda is reporting all are alive. Man this is great..

Posted by: HOBOKENROCKS at January 15, 2009 4:37 PM

And, it didn't crash in Manhattan. Kind of puts anyone's real estate problems and our bickering into a different perspective

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 15, 2009 4:37 PM

Glad to hear all are safe.
I can't look at photos or footage, I'm faint of heart.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at January 15, 2009 4:40 PM

these guys all deserve alot of praise, from the boats nearby and the emergency workers... Great thing to see, this is NY and its still the best place to live....

Posted by: HOBOKENROCKS at January 15, 2009 4:40 PM

A lot of the TV coverage is now showing passengers being escorted off of the boats and surprisingly many of then are not even wet!!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at January 15, 2009 4:42 PM

::praying, praying, praying:: God bless that pilot for being able to avoid buildings. New York has an amazing emergency response system. We all pray that they will never be necessary, but in times like these, I can only thank God for their presence and capabilities.

Hoboken, did you see the actual crash?

Posted by: cobblehiller at January 15, 2009 4:47 PM

this plane went right by my building, that is how I found out what was happening. One of my neighbors saw the whole thing and knocked on my door... Crazy crazy... But what a great feeling to see all alive. ....

Posted by: HOBOKENROCKS at January 15, 2009 4:50 PM

no i didn't cobble but my neighbor did and she was visibly shaken...

Posted by: HOBOKENROCKS at January 15, 2009 4:51 PM

Yikes, I bet she is - I'd need a stiff drink. It sounds like a few were in the water - but no deaths.

CNN is saying US Airways will be making a statement soon.

Posted by: cobblehiller at January 15, 2009 4:55 PM

Pilot deserves a medal
so does the Circleline for rushing in to rescue folks
all people have been rescued and many not injured but some are being treated for exposure and cuts
wow!

Posted by: gemini10 at January 15, 2009 4:59 PM

the plane has drifted down the hudson and is now close to chambers street by the west side highway and it is being pulled by tugboats

Posted by: cementbottom at January 15, 2009 4:59 PM

THIS BUDS FOR YOU PILOT , I am as stoked as I have ever been over anything

Posted by: HOBOKENROCKS at January 15, 2009 5:02 PM

Yep, just floated past my office. They must have pulled it up as I could see the whole plane. A wing was resting on a large boat...I thought they might try to hold it by one of the piers down here, but it's moving past. Maybe they'll try to hold it by the ferry docks in Battery Park?
