Haven't Received Rebate Check
I still have not recieved my rebate check. I'm a homeowner in Brooklyn Heights and am wondering if anyone in the neighborhood has. I know this was asked in late Dec but now it's late Jan and still nada. I contacted the NYC Dept of finance via NYC.gov to no avail. Anyone had to contact them to get the check? Who did you call and did it work?

Go to nyc.gov/finance and click the link "check your rebate
eligibility and status" and you will find out if your check has been processed yet.

I thought only 3 family homes got the rebate? Do co op and condo owners also get a rebate check?

I'm in brooklyn heights, and I got my check a while back. I know there are some limitations (if you own three units +, maybe a income limit?), so check online.

I didn't get one so I phoned in. It didn't take all that long and they told me that my house was not listed as mu primary residence. I had apparently not filled out the application. I never filled one out when it all started and regularly got the $400 for my condo in Manhattan.
The nice lady on the line said she's send me the application to fill out. She also said I better use the paper one as they were having problems with this online.
But bren is right above...just login and you can see whether you qualify by the type of building you have...which, I might add, is more easily determined from the DOB BIS site.
The online acccess to your account using your borough-block-lot numbers doesn't always work.
I didn't get one last year but just chalked that up to perhaps not owning the building for the full 12 months of 2007. That was wrong. If you've moved recently you have to fill out the application.

Thank you for your responses. I had already looked on the website and my apartment is eligible. So I called 311 and apparently I need to fill out this same form that indicates the apartment is my primary residence. Thanks again everyone!

dave, did you get the check once you submitted the application, or are you out of luck for missed rebates in past years? i'm in the exact same boat right now and just had my conversation with 311 yesterday.

I have never received any checks, either. I chalked it up to being behind on city income taxes, but I filled out inquiry just now. Thanks for bringing up the topic, OP. I hope I get an answer soon. $400 would actually be a help, right now.

I also had the problem of them not having it recorded as my primary residence - despite the fact that I got my STAR refund check which supposedly goes off of the same database. At any rate, when I spoke with the finance folks about it they said that those of us who didn't get our checks in the original mailing would have to wait until they ran the reports again. She estimated that it would be a couple of weeks before they sent out a new batch. That was two weeks ago so hopefully they'll be doing it soon.

In BH as well. Just rec'd a check two weeks ago. Gave it to the IRS to take a miniscule dent out of AMT.

So here's an issue for discussion: I originally did not sign up for STAR, on the theory that our schools need the funding we get from property taxes and I wanted to pay my share. Then, when I didn't get a rebate check last year, I looked into and was also told that the reason was that the city's records didn't show that my home is my primary residence. So how does one record that one's home is one's primary residence? Turns out there's only one way: to apply for STAR relief! Call me cynical, but I think that's just crazy!

z...i just called them today!!! The application is in the mail!!! LOL

BklynCynic-
That's remarkably civic minded of you, but getting a STAR reduction doesn't actually affect the budget of the department of education. The City gets money from the State to make up for revenue lost from STAR (which was sort of the original idea -- to have the state take over some of the property tax burden from local governments). So, fill out that STAR application and get your rebate to boot!

do most homeowners who have rental units and get their rebate check split it with their tenants?
*rob*

why would they do that? the tenants don't pay the property taxes.
