contractor recommendation

We are buying a brownstone!

I need a contractor recommendation preferably by a homeowner.

I am a registered architect but am new to NYC and need to get accurate prices for my renovation.

The 3 family house is in need of some work but is habitable. We will convert to a 2 family.

Hi
You can call our contractor Richard at 646-645-2300. He recently finished work on our home in Ditmas Park and we are very satisfied. Not sure what his schedule looks like, but definitely give him call and you can mention my name

Matt

We've used Matt Zocco (MLZ Construction) on two of our houses during the last seven years, and been extremely pleased. 718-966-8859.

Chris Marcoux, Quirk Ltd. 718-230-1650. Just completed substantial reno on our house. Very reliable, professional workstyle, excellent work; subs are outstanding.

Can't recommend Matt diFrancesco highly enough. I know the website says green roofs, but he's rebuilding my brownstone and not putting a green roof on it at all. Knows a lot about LEED/green/econerd stuff:

Try AllRenovation Construction, I hired them in 2006 to gut a 3 family Brownstone in Windsor Terrace. I interview 3 other companies, AllReno was the only company that submitted an itemized estimate. Very professional, customer service conscious and finished my project on time. I highly recommend them. You can reach them at 718-351-4099 or check their site http://www.allrenovation-ny.com

If you need anymore detailed info email me and I'll send you my contact number.

Best of Luck

Hello,

My husband would be happy to arrange an appointment and give you an estimate. He does all the interior renovation (sheetrock/blueboard, plaster, painting, flooring, tile etc...)

I'm starting to feel like a broken record making this rec, but I'm so enthusiastic about it, I jump on the chance to do so: Nick at Transcend Construction. Do a forum search for Transcend and you'll see lots of recs for him. Basically, I just got done with a huge, almost gut, renovation. I hired someone else as a GC, who I ended up not being very happy with, but when we needed a lot of exterior work we found multiple recs for Transcend here so we decided to go with them. After working with SO many folks (GC, plumbers, electricians, etc,), our experience with Nick stands out as AWESOME (ALL the others were poor to just acceptable--I have pretty high standards). Good work, and he's totally honest and fair--you'll never feel like you're being duped in the least, b/c you're not.

Here's a post about some of our experiences/what we learned, including a big rec for Nick: http://www.brownstoner.com/forum/archives/2008/12/our_recent_expe.php

We had a positive experience all around with Transcend Construction, found here on the forum. They did a great job, had great workers and stuck to their estimate despite some minor changes in scope.

welcome to new york! You can find vetted sources for all types of new york city renovation services in The Franklin Report. They have contractors, painters, designers, all kinds of specialists. It's a great resource for homeowners and a great source of business for pros (I'm a kitchen and bath designer and have found many clients and subs thru it).
It's like a zagats for renovation, all listings are rated by homeowners and clients. In order to qualify for being listed, we must re-qualify every year with new client recommendations.
Check it out:
