Wood like Paint Color

Is there anyone that can recommend paints that looks like wood. I made the mistake of painting my built-in bookshelf white and it does not match the color scheme in the dining room. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

You neeed to find a woodgraining kit then. Not sure who makes the best ones but do a google search

If you're adding another layer of paint, I would think hard about switching to a complimentary color, rather than woodgraining. Decorative and faux finishes can be extraordinary, or they can just add to regret. There are some wonderful surface tints and glazes available, too. Take a look through the many books available in any bookstore to get some ideas before plunging in on graining/repaint, and bring swatches of your new color scheme with you.

Really appreciate all of your suggestions!

Cheater's tip: Orange or yellow base with "antique" black or brown glaze.

An even easier cheat--a tan base color covered with an appropriate color varnish stain. Note that this would only look OK is you had the bookcase full of books, so that only the edges of the wood showed.

Doing any kind of faux bois is pretty time consuming. Possibly as time consuming as stripping the wood, especially if you haven't done it before.

Oh serpentor. Say faux bois again...
