Talking about Tips...

NY Times delivery left a envelope last week which I misplaced. Is it normal to tip and how much? And how would I find his address...do I have to wade thru the voice menus at NYT Customer service?

Thanks

yes, tipping newspaper delivery people is normal...they expect it (and how much could they be earning, after all? And let's face it, it's a crummy job.....Mine gets my papers to me on time almost every day of the year....I think he deserves a tip.....)

If you lost the envelope he sent you, I'd put a note on the door asking him to leave you another......or you could try the newspaper's home delivery customer service and ask them......

I give our NY Times delivery person $20 each year. I think if you call the Times 800 #, you'll probably be able to get the number to the distribution depot, or leave a message for someone to call you back.

Depending on where you live, it's probably the same fellow I have -
David Miller
324 Beach 37th
Far Rockaway, NY 11631

I give him $20 a year - I can't imagine getting up on cold, inclement winter mornings for what must be a small stipend &, even though it's late sometimes, I really appreciate his effort.

Arkady: I live in PS, and my carrier is absolutely not the person you posted. I'm sure you meant well, but in the future I recommend circumspection before posting other people's personal information. A note on the door might work, but depending on your house and carrier the paper might simply be tossed. As to tips, I am baffled by CMU's question. As one who comes home from work at the hour my paper is being delivered, the difficult working conditions of the carrier are obvious. The carrier's "invisibility" would not justify a failure to thank them for their service.
