Architect/Expeditor for Modular Build
Does anyone have a recommendation for an architect and/or expeditor who is familiar with getting a modular built house approved in Brooklyn. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

great question and wish I had a great answer. It could be tricky with changing NYC building codes and use of plastic pipes, non nyc approved assemblies, blah, blah. I guess my point is you will need help for sure. I know these guys:

I looked in to this a year ago and gave up because I couldn't find anything modular that was up to NYC code.

Try researching modular manufacters. Some years ago I worked with an architect/developer who had 100 affordable modular townhouses built in the Bronx. The manufacturers were in Pennsylvania.
These days there are modulars being sent to the Bronx and the Rockaways. The manufacturers want to sell product in the City and will build to code. The one I worked with had basic show models that modified slightly to work better in an urban setting. They looked great until we added the exposed electric meters required by ConEd and the parking pads required by the DoB. Please note that the foundations were site built.

My wife works for an firm in the city Linea LLP (212.321.1500) and they have a modular project under construction. It is a prefab rooftop addition that was approved in a landmark district.

What do you envision as "modular"? Do you mean prefabricated off site or were you referring to some other type of configuration?
If you found an architect with the right mind set, they could translate the NYC code so a modular builder can provide a compliant assembly and the architect could present that design to NYC DOB for permits. If you intend to select a manufacturer beforehand, it would be beneficial to have them work with a local architect early on.

I am a NY licensed architect and have experience with new construction and renovations. I can get DOB permits. My interest is also in green building, modular assembly, prefab etc.
I encourage you to contact me (see website for tele & link to email):

NewYawker,
I'm another architect and I just came across this thread. I, too specialize in sustainable design and have been speaking with a modular home fabricator in LI about doing exactly this kind of work. This is the builder that's done work for Res 4 and a few other big names. We've discussed the mechanics of getting plans approved and homes delivered in NYC. As it turns out, it's not that difficult to get a pre-fab approved, and the design can be as custom as if it were built on-site.
If you're still looking for an architect who can do this kind of work, please contact me.
