wood floor refinishing, recommendations

Looking for a few recommendations of professional and reasonable wood flooring contractors. I live in a 4 story condo building which needs the common area stairway (light wooden floors) to be refinished. Anyone out there you guys would recommend? Thanks!

Go with http://www.verrazanoflooring.com. I used them and they did a great job...many people use them, they are just a great company.

My friend recommended Verazano Flooring when my mom wanted to redo her original pine floors of her garden floor brownstone apartment. They came in and did a quick job which I though was routine since I had never had this type of work done. Within 2 - 3 years the poly in high traffic areas dulled then literally disappeared. I had not noticed but they may have just given her 1 coat of poly. Looking back the job was sloppy and very rushed. I would not recommend them.

I have used Carlos from Carlos Wood floors previously and he did an excellent job. He worked with me to suggest proper stains colors and his people did the job the way it was suppose to be done. I really felt like they cared about the quality of the work. Carlos can be reached via his cell number at 646-281-2659. He has since partnered with another interior finishing company called Inti Interior Finish & Wood Floors. I just hired him recently to do the floors of a new home I purchased in Ridgefield Park, NJ.

Best of Luck,
Adam

i had a negative experience with Veranzanno flooring as well. First they told me they would have no problem refinishing my floor, and after sanding, they told me i should just replace the floors b/c they were going to fall apart. i was pretty annoyed and torn about what to do, as the cost was substantially different. i just told them to complete the job because i didnt' have the money to replace the floors. then when they applied the finish, the floor was half glossy finish and the other half totally dull. they had to come back an additional three times to correct their error. they did lower the price, but i was NOT impressed with their work or their ethics. and needless to say, my floors have not fallen apart.
good luck finding a vendor. hope this information helps.

I used Carlos to redo the floors in a rental unit and unfortunately I cannot recommend him. His prices were reasonable and he did an acceptable job on the floors. However, he didn't finish the job. He had to remove a radiator to do the floors and said he would replace it on the last day of work. So (foolishly) we left him a check on the last day. Needless to say, the check went but the radiator was not reinstalled nor was all of the trash removed. Then Carlos turned into the typical poor contractor - not answering calls from our numbers, not returning messages, pretending not to know who we were. Not recommended.

I can highly recommend US Wood Floor Corp. - the front man is Richard, phone 718-698-0886. He used to work for Verrazzano but now has his own firm. He and his crew are prompt, courteous, hard working (they work Saturdays) and careful craftsmen. They are laying new parquet and borders on our parlor level and we are thrilled with their work.

I highly recommend Sean O'Sullivan at Old Oak Flooring, 646-662-5724. They refinished my floors and the results are just gorgeous.
