Wood burning fireplace conversion
We'd like to convert the wood burning fireplace in our brownstone to gas and are running into conflicting
advice from our plumber, carpenters and chimney guys, as well as the vendor of the gas fixture/unit in regards to the size of the chimney opening and proper venting.
Has anyone gone through
this process who would be willing to share information and experience?

I'm also curious about this.
we live on the top floor of a 4 storey brownstone and have 2 fireplaces that need lining.
we have run the gas feeding lines during our current renovation in anticipation of doing the work in the next year but want to know whats involved and can we proceed as a 'single floor' rather than having to get everyone in the entire building to agree to rip and replace all 8 fireplaces.
Cheers,
Dean

I would trust the units manufacturer for guidelines.
Keep in mind you will also need a source for make up air for the combustion process, which probably means you want a heat exchanger so the exhaust air can warm up the make up air, otherwise you will either lose efficiency or will cool off some other part of your house (where the make up air is drawn in from the outside).
