Smell from Sink
The sink down my basement constantly has a foul smell. I believe that it is also hooked-up with my clothes washer if that has anything to do with it, yet it even smells when I haven't washed clothes for days? Any recommendations?

Every so often, pour a bit of bleach and hot water down the drain, let it sit. Works wonders.

Could be you are smelling sewer gas, and related to traps that are dry, vents that are clogged, or pipes that are cracked. Depending on configuration and conditions above, maybe volume of water from washer is causing water to be flushed from sink trap. My suggestion: call your plumber.

Oh, sorry, when I used bleach it was to counteract mildew smell. Maybe you have something else?

Is the pipe vented?

The pipe is located behind sheetrock and is not vented to the outside.

Okay, this is strange because I have noticed a strange smell from my washing machine. And I have been noticing the same smell in the bathroom at work. It's not a sewage smell, but something different. I can't even describe the smell. All of this I've noticed recently... Strange.

Is it in the hot water only? Do you have a traditional gas water heater? If it is it may be a harmelss chemical reaction. This is link to AO Smith water heater support page on the subject
