previous owner's water/sewer bill?

We closed on a housein mid-August. Just got our first water bill and we owe around $100 for the past 3 months but then there is a previous charge (May-Aug) for $163 plus late fees. This is the first we've heard about it. I remember at closing there was some talk of the water/sewer bill being paid up or something. Who do we talk to about this, would our atty from closing have more info? Or are we probably stuck with it at this point?

Contact your lawyer, there should be $$ in escrow for this sort of thing, and yes, your lawyer should have taken care of it beforehand.

This happened to us, it got straightened out, but it took a lot of phonecalls.

This also happened to me, to the tune of a lot more than what you are talking about. Their lawyer had money in escrow and they are in the process of paying the outstanding charges. Has taken them several months though to my annoyance.

Happened to us too, and we were REALLY ANNOYED.

.....Until we realized it was settled during closing....

Look at your closing docs. There's probably a wee deduction (comparatively) from the purchase price to cover the funds owed on the water bill.

And, if it's not there for some reason, ask yourself if the frustration is worth it to collect your $200.

you can also contact the water company and show them the deed when you took over possession and they will usually settle it

Um, that hasn't been my experience, Derwood.
