No Parking in Carroll Gardens

Has anyone noticed that since alternate street parking was changed from 4 to 2 days a week, there has been a slew of commuters parking in our neighborhood?

Wait until the East River bridge tolls go into effect.

No. Have noticed parking a little easier.
And how what does a commuter look like exactly - so I know one when I see one?

Petebklyn, where have you looked? I need to know your block to park on.

In the past, I would occasionally (perhaps once a fortnight) have trouble finding a spot. Now, nearly every time I use my car, I have to circle for an hour or more if I want to be within a block or two. Even 4 or 5 blocks away--toward the Gowanus may or may not guarantee a spot.

As for your snarky commuter comment, I think commuter parkers are fairly obvious. People pull up to the block at 7:30, sitting in their car with a mug of coffee from home, reading the paper, waiting for the first spot and pull in, leaving the coffee cup in the car and walking to the subway with their briefcase. The likelihood that they were all locals is pretty low. especially given that I do not recognize them after 20 years on the block. In my short time outside taking my child to school and returning, I see a few people do this each day.

brooklyn heights and cobble hill have been 2 days a week for as long as i've lived here (12 yrs) - can't say i've seen any "obvious" commuters there - if anything i'd think that 2 days a week makes it harder for commuters to park (people move their cars less - so less available spots).

i for one have occasionally been that person with coffee mug waiting for a spot - only b/c i got home late the night before and parked somewhere that i had to move by 7am. i then walk right to the subway. i think its fairly common even for locals.

These blocks were two days a week and now they're one day per week. I definitely know the locals doing the same as you, I am among them. And certainly that is a part of the issue, that many never leave or save spots for each other.

That said, I can clearly see those who come and park for the week, some come the night of the alternate side and come back a week later, either having no spots in their neighborhood or preferring ours.

I do not see complaining about street parking in a neighborhood chosen partially for the ability to park as being a NIMBY issue although I know there are those who consider any complaints to be such. This is about the concept of each brownstone with a width of 1-2 cars meaning at least one parking space... and yes, that may mean we need permit parking .

I have never noticed anyone in more than 20 years of living near Warren St exit at Bergen St station parking in area to use subway. It does not even seem logistically practical to find a space in a.m. on non-alternate side. Yes, eventually could get one but how much time wasted.
I do see plenty of people who work in neighborhood looking for a space - from schools, supermarket, etc. But why shouldn't they? Aren't people from our neighborhood who have cars driving to some other neighborhood and parking?

Parking permits seems like stupid selfish busybody controling idea.
