. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Citigroup Inc., the fourth-biggest U.S. bank by market value, plans to eliminate more than 50,000 jobs, or about 14 percent of the workforce, and cut expenses by 20 percent from their peak as the global economy contracts.
What will be the impact on NYC Real Estate?

Would someone please adopt the poor rubber tree listed below from hoffster.

I thought about it Dave. What kind of care does it need?
Posted by: wasder at November 17, 2008 9:52 AM
wasder...I think they live fine indoors. If that plant was left out last night it might be too late.
I'm just wondering if it's "stolen goods" If hoffster says its from a bar was it stolen after a wild party of drinking, drugs, etc.? I stole a Schlitz bar tap during college graduation week. Yup, took it right off the taps on the bar. These things probably still happen in Red Hook.

Well, I hope somebody brought it indoors. If it stayed out last night its probably a goner.
Red Hook bars are pretty anarchic sometimes. Somebody could have just walked out of there with the plant under their arm.

Wasder, rubber trees are really easy to grow indoors. Needs some sun, but you have that judging from the pictures you posted. Throw an eight-ounce glass of water in the pot once a week, that's it.
I thought about adopting it but don't have the room here. Had to give away a big beautiful tree myself when I moved in.
By the way, the house looks great. Your kids are going to have some beautiful memories of growing up in that house. As the Mastercard ad says, Priceless.

Sad wasder. it's certainly a sign of something that people have been chatting about here for awhile. Something about a Mutant Asset Bubble or something. Not important in the larger scheme of living a brownstone life in brooklyn and having a house that you love. Sorry, I digressed.
Back on topic though...I've never been to a bar in Red Hook. I had brunch at Tabac on Saturday morning. The service was fine but my eggs benedict was overcooked. Nothing worse than eggs that are not runny when you want them to be.
Walked past Downtown Bar and Grill and it was empty. Got panned last week.

One night won't kill it, you guys. But it does need to come indoors now.

dylanfan--thanks about the house. A rubber tree might look great in a corner somewhere.
dave--go to Sunny's sometime to soak up the classic Brooklyn waterfront vibe. Was there this weekend for a rare night out on the town for this whipped dad (haha if my wife is reading).

Next time your found, with your chin on the ground
There a lot to be learned, so look around
Just what makes that little old ant
Think he’ll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, can’t
Move a rubber tree plant
But he’s got high hopes, he’s got high hopes
He’s got high apple pie, in the sky hopes
So any time your gettin’ low
’stead of lettin’ go
Just remember that ant
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant
When troubles call, and your back’s to the wall
There a lot to be learned, that wall could fall
Once there was a silly old ram
Thought he’d punch a hole in a dam
No one could make that ram, scram
He kept buttin’ that dam
’cause he had high hopes, he had high hopes
He had high apple pie, in the sky hopes
So any time your feelin’ bad
’stead of feelin’ sad
Just remember that ram
Oops there goes a billion kilowatt dam
All problems just a toy balloon
They’ll be bursted soon
They’re just bound to go pop
Oops there goes another problem kerplop
Can we go to an old school bar that plays lots of Sinatra for the "Keep On Fucking Around PArty?"

DIBS, I CANNOT believe you just beat me to the punch. I had the lyrics all cut and came here to paste them only to find you did it a minute earlier.
I wish I could think of the Chairman (Sinatra, not Pandit) but cannot help be reminded of Laverne & Shirley when I see these lyrics!

Great minds think alike.

I forgot all about that song! Too much!

I don't know any bar that plays as much Sinatra as the barbers on 7th Ave and 4th Street in the Slope. But Sunny's is quite old school, although adopted by lots of 20-somethings. Bluegrass on Saturday nights, too. Not very accessible, though, so perhaps not so good for the next party.
Wasder, the house is looking great. Any chance we'll see some more inside pix soon?
DIBS, is there a date set yet for the KOFAP? Is Tabac as close as you've gotten to Red Hook? Still pretty far away.
Posted by: slopefarm at November 17, 2008 10:29 AM
slopefarm..i've been to Court Street. That's closer!!! Where's Sunny's??
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 17, 2008 10:32 AM
Biff??? Date for the KOFAP???
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 17, 2008 10:34 AM
Sunny's is right around the corner from Fairway (on Conover). Its quite amazing really.
Posted by: wasder at November 17, 2008 10:41 AM
Sunny's near the southern end of Conover Street (a block west of Van Brunt), just across from the overflow parking lot for Fairway.
Moving west from Smith to Court won't really get you closer to Red Hook. You need to go south.
Posted by: slopefarm at November 17, 2008 10:41 AM
No date yet. We're still waiting for Mr. Return of The You-Know-Who to predict the next date of our demise. I've been asking, but to no avail.
Posted by: Biff Champion at November 17, 2008 10:42 AM
I think the furthest south I've been is the Excelsior Bar!!! Do any of these places have rubber trees that are free for the taking???
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 17, 2008 10:43 AM
I thought there was a date in early December that we were able to figure out once from some crack-crazed ranting. Sorry for the cross threading here but it seems like some of the posters on the Bed Stuy crackhouse fire are implying they want to legalize crack.
I think someone on crack is very likely to steel a rubber tree from a bar.

DIBS, experts in horticulture will tell you that you should never take someone else's rubber tree. (And experts in whore culture will tell you that you should never use someone else's rubber!).
Posted by: Biff Champion at November 17, 2008 10:48 AM
I didn't know those things grew on trees.
(Sorry, punch line arrived about 20 minutes too late. I'll do better next time.)
Posted by: slopefarm at November 17, 2008 10:52 AM
If anyone needs boots or shoes, someone just added a couple of Forum posts on where to get some.
Posted by: Biff Champion at November 17, 2008 10:55 AM
Did rob and 11217 go on their date yet??? I hope they used a rubber tree.
Posted by: daveinbedstuy at November 17, 2008 11:01 AM
slopefarm--were you at sunny's this weekend?
Posted by: wasder at November 17, 2008 11:04 AM
Hi, Wasder,
No; I get there once in a blue moon. Our next door neighbor has a bluegrass band that plays there occasionally on Saturday nights. But shows typically start at 10.
These days, I've been having enough trouble just finding the time to go around the corner to Puppet's Jazz Bar.
Posted by: slopefarm at November 17, 2008 11:45 AM
I hear you. This was a friend's 40th so I had a good excuse.
Posted by: wasder at November 17, 2008 11:49 AM
DIBS -- Your question has been answered on rob's thread about the noisy dog-taunting tweens in the alley. Looks like they haven't dated yet, but the possibility remains.
