Appliance repair person

Thanks to a sewer pipe issue --God help me, this freaking brownstone is a terrorist---now fixed, I am sorting through the details of my insurance claim. My washing maching was a casualty of the whole fiasco and the insurance adjuster tells me that I need to go through the exercise of seeing if the machine can be fixed?

Can anyone recommend a reputable repair person/company?

Many thanks.

You might want to try Sears, which provides repair service for a broad range of appliances. (Maybe HD and Lowe's offer the same, but have no knowledge of that.) I am not recommending Sears because of great repair service—I think it's probably catch-as-catch-can in terms of the skills of whoever shows up. But we needed a stove assessed and/or repaired, and Sears met insurance criteria for that. The repair went perfectly well. The cost of repair was about halfway toward a new stove, and if we'd had our choice, we would have replaced the appliance. In this case, replacement was not an option unless repair was impossible. Check with your insurance agent to see whether they'd be suitable for your repair: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/nb_10153_12605_NB_HomeServices?adCell=AH

Thank you very much. It's 6 of one half a dozen the other for me on this. I'd like to get a new machine, but then I have to go through the exercise of getting it downstairs which requires steel trap doors to the street to be taken off - a major operation. But I have to do this for insurance so this helps a lot Thank you.

I just had my washer/dryer serviced by Father and Son Appliance Repair. You can find them on google. Peter is the guy's name and he is awesome.

I would never trust Sears, their repair or buy anything there ever again. Besides my run in with their incompetence, It is well documented about their loss of quality online in blogs and message boards. Please check http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums

Call Walter Banks of Banks Appliance: 718- 574-0805. IMO, he's the most competent, reliable, reasonbly-priced and personable appliance repair person you'd ever want to meet!
