I hate charts like this which exagerate the change by ommitting much of the vertical axis (here the beginning seems to be 200 rather than 0).

Good point Putnam Denizen. Useful tactic for people who like creating hysteria.

What, do you think about anything other than the stock market and its effect on real estate prices? It would appear not.

The What should learn how to use the data to his advantage. The market actually bottomed on 7/8/32 at 41!!!

Dear what,

hate to spoil the party, but your chart shows something commonly referred to by English speaking folks as "the past." The "future" hasn't happened yet, that's why there's a different word for it. Someday, this lesson is gonna end....in "the future." See you there, handsome.

Actually, that looks about right to me. I went back into the market Friday at around 3:30PM and then quickly pulled the plug on Monday at about the same time. Now I am waiting until after the election to get back in. I am a social worker by profession, but I worked in business in the past, so I've learned to go with my gut on these kinds of things. Cost me a lot of money to learn how valuable my gut is, but I guess that's life. I think this time next month we'll all be holding our noses and buying.

Tonight is futures expiration and there's going to be a fairly wild event after 3:00 given where the market gets to by then. Some rumors of a snap rate cut overnight.

You're right DIBS, market is certainly moving right now. I hope it explodes to the up-side. I still haven't gotten out of a few positions that I'd like to liquidate. I don't see the trend being truly higher until after the election. A lot of ups and downs between now and then.

Here we go.... we're going to be up 700-800 on the rollover of the S&P futures!!!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 16, 2008 3:16 PM

I assume Dave by your exclamation points that that is good. It is so funny to me that when you guys get talking the nitty gritty of the market it is less comprehensible to me than mandarin chinese.

Posted by: wasder at October 16, 2008 3:22 PM

do you speak mandarin wasder??

I lived in Hong Kong and can speak some cantonese.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 16, 2008 3:37 PM

Can any of you play Sup Yee Sup??? The 0-5-10-15-20 game with your hands? it's a drinking game. it can't be played in English either, it totally detracts from the loudness and pace of the game!!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 16, 2008 3:53 PM

I know no Chinese whatsoever Dave.

Posted by: wasder at October 16, 2008 3:56 PM

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 16, 2008 4:02 PM

Haha.

Posted by: wasder at October 16, 2008 4:06 PM

I play it very well Dave but then again I'm rubbish at drinking so it's probably just as well.

Where were you in HK? I was in Jordan before moving to Central (just above Lan Kwai Fong) in the early 90's.

If the market goes up alot than I would be shorting on Monday. Not thru the weekend because who knows what the government will do. This baby is heading down , I just don't know when. But if it goes over 1040 on the sp 500 than I will be shorting it.
