we found a great carpenter!

we found a great carpenter!

To anyone in need of an excellent finish carpenter I would highly
recommend using Hub Moore. We hired him for a number of projects
during our oh so looong renovation including building 2 large built-
in cabinet/shelf units, installing the new kitchen (stainless steel
cabinets and soapstone counters), and also building an ipe roof deck,
as well as a number of other things. His work is detail oriented and
extremely thorough and he was really good at seamlessly integrating
the new stuff with the existing old mouldings, details, etc. -we were
very impressed with everything he did (we are quite picky!) and he is
really easy to work with as well. His cell is 917-972-4431.
Tell him Ann sent you!

Thanks Ann--this is exatcly the type of built in that we want. Can I ask what you paid for the two bookcases in the photo?
Thanks!

Yes, thank you Ann for sharing this. It's so nice to get really enthusiastic and credible recommendations for various local tradespeople. I will definitely be keeping Hub in mind for future projects. Your cabs and book shelves look wonderful. Congratulations!

Hi PHFamily,

I feel a little funny about posting someone's prices on an open forum but I am sure he would tell you himself -he is very straightforward and I always found his prices to be very reasonable. His e-mail is hub@hubmoore.com

Great photo, great cabinets.
I'm having Chaise envy. I want to lay on it and have grapes fed to me.

is there an echo in here?

Hub is great; we met with him but ended up deciding to buy freestanding bookcases for our basement instead of doing built-ins. But he did our good friends' place and did a wonderful job. They were thrilled with him.

Awesome chaise. I have 5 pieces of furniture in our living room that were antiques I had reupholstered in more modern fabrics. It's a lot of fun and even with the cost of upholstering it's cheaper than buying new furniture of quality. Plus you just can't get the same construction in new furniture. Even in the high-end furniture once the upholstery is ripped off and the innards exposed they're not always constructed so well. My upholsterer was ranting to me about that.

Nice job. I too like the chaise... Can you make recommendations for upholsterers?

Posted by: going4broke at October 21, 2008 12:34 PM

My upholsterer was out in NJ and retired, sorry. But people have made recommendations for others here on Forum before. Try and find some upholstery topics in the categories under "Topics" at the top right of the Forum page. Though there isn't a category for interior design or upholstery or furniture. Maybe it would be filed under decorative or restoration?

Hi - thanks for the handyman recommendation. I have a wonderful recommendation for a reupholsterer. His name is Andres Vazquez. I've been using him for years, and began when his dad, who has since retired owned the business. The name of the business is:

New Nassau General Reupholstery
238 Central Avenue
Brooklyn, NY

Cell: 917-586-4605
Business: 718-383-5165

His work is excellent. You can pick fabric from him, or use your own; Andres will come to your house and estimate how much fabric you will need. Andres and his team will also repair your furniture, if it needs it, and can also replicate any of the cushion designs or recommend what works best. We've been using him for years and would never go to anyone else.
