No Honking Signs / Fines?
Do "No Honking" signs exist in Brooklyn (as they do in Manhattan) on residential streets? Is it possible to lobby the city for these succesfully? Any experiences?

Like you really think that people will obey a sign like that or that the police will bother to enforce?

Yes, slightly less effective than "No Littering" signs.

Don't forget the no parking signs or clean up your dog shit signs. Those work so well.

I would just love to see someone get a ticket for running a red light or driving 50 mph down a side street... after that's under control, we can worry about honking.
The littering is painful to watch. Buy new item in bodega, throw rapper on ground. Young, old, elderly... doesn't matter. Ridiculous. When I drop something by accident on the sidewalk and it blows away, I'm filled with anxiety. What clicked in my head that missed everyone else?

There's some on Smith and Pacific. Ignored.

Ahhhh, message boards, the place where everyone gets a chance to release their inner smartass. Very constructive.
Anyway, back to the original question, anywhere else that these exist in Brooklyn?

Tybur6, just cuz ya don't like hip-hop, doesn't mean you have to resort to violence!

For future searches, from NYtimes 04/20/2008:
"Horn-honking complaints and sign requests are made through 311, community boards and elected officials, said Michael Saucier, a spokesman for the city’s Department of Environmental Protection, the agency that pays for the signs."

Denton - very clever.
squaredrive - how is placing a useless (and ugly) sign on a pole in any way constructive?

There's one at Carroll and 5th Ave, says $350 fine. I noticed several cops hanging out twice last week waiting for a honker.

Hey it's fine with me if you think the signs are ridiculous and ineffective. I am not really interested in that argument. I was just simply looking for information on the procedure/ governing body/ precedent in Brooklyn, and thought someone here may have experience. Thanks.

And you got one. Seems to me you are going to be as effective at controlling honkers as you are at controlling the responses on this space. Me, I lost it once on a tour bus which was iddling for 20 minutes across the street. Incredibly loud. When I charged over in my pj's and work boots I at least scared the bejesus out of them...
