Just wondering...best use of parlor
so, many traditional brownstones have double doors that open directly into the front part of the parlor, right? The set up I most often see are couches or chairs flanking the fireplace, usually somewhat positioned in front of the doors. My question is...how do folks usually use that portion of the floor most close to the parlor windows? Do you have it set up as another little sitting area? Is your desk there? Just trying to use the space as best as possible and getting puzzled.

This is one of the mysteries of the universe, what to put in the front of your parlor. A grand piano? Some large plants? A separate seating area? A desk sounds like a good idea. Good luck

We basically have 2 seating areas on either side of the fireplace. We keep the area in front of the fireplace opened up and usually have a round "poufe" there to help transition the 2 areas. We found setting up chairs in front of the fireplace strangles the flow of the room.

Try looking at some of the photos on corcoran or some of the other real estate sites to get ideas. You'll get far more variety (and visuals) than you will collect on the blog.
