How to affix holiday decorations to limestone?

Wondering if anyone has the "secret" tip that will get my holiday decor to stay up without damaging the stone. Obviously I don't want to create any permanent holes or damage. What do you do?

I would go to Dyker Heights and ask around!!! Seriously...how about those new hooks that you can stick on anywhere and then pull some tab on the bottom and they come off without a trace?

I had this bookmarked. I was searching for an answer with regard to hanging decorations on a brick house. It may work with limestone too but I'd do a test patch first in a not too noticeable spot.

I would strongly suggest not drilling any holes in your building, be it brick or stone. Any hole you drill invites water and damage to the facade. If you have holes in the front of the building, i suggest getting them filled in.

The best thing i've found to hang decorations is a hot glue gun. its great for tacking up xmas lights, etc. it will not work for heavy wreaths, etc.

you can get some lightweight hanger hooks at the hardware store and hot glue them to the stone or brick.

if you want to hang something heavier you may be able to use strong fishing line ( avail at hardware store, near the picture hanging hardware ) that is attached to a window frame.

Thanks Handyman - no worries,I have no plans of drilling holes in my house. Glue gun sounds worth a try although Im not sure if that would also damage the facade. Hmmm...have to test that out.

I guess depending on the decorations your looking to hang, some could be done with piano wire or fishing string. A couple of pieces across the windows, and hang everything from there. Just a thought.

Lee Valley (a tool, hardware and gardening supply company) has hooks that are sort of spring loaded so that they can clamp onto the top and bottoms of bricks without doing any damage. I don't know if you have any projections small enough for them to fit, but it might be worth checking out. I think that their website is www.leevalley.com
