End of the World (Or Maybe Not) Party

End of the World (Or Maybe Not) Party

Reminder: our first annual End of the World (Or Maybe Not) Party is tomorrow night (Thursday, October 16) at Union Hall in Park Slope. Union Hall is typically quite busy, especially on Thursday nights, but they are trying their best to accommodate the 'Stoner crowd. As such, please let me know if you plan to attend (and if you will be bringing anyone else along) so I can give them a rough idea of the number of people attending. We will kick off the fun at 6:30pm, but if you can’t make it until later on, don’t worry, we expect to be there for a while.

Another down day in the market. I'll definitely be there but I can't seem to find my ass hat.

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 15, 2008 9:39 AM

Thanks PitbullNYC. I've got you down. Sounds like an interesting look. Apparently, according to Sarah Palin, a hockey mom is a pitbull with lipstick. However, I'm not quite sure what to make of a pitbull with a flourescent green crossing guard vest.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 9:42 AM

Dave, last time my party post was wedged between The What and something about cleaning pipes. Now I'm wedged between a psychotherapist and an old house smell. I guess the three rules of real estate also apply to Forum Posts...location, location, location!

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 9:47 AM

I'm down. Any word from you know who? His silence on this question is deafening. Should be a fun evening, and potentially quite interesting.

Posted by: slopefarm at October 15, 2008 9:48 AM

Where did that post about the post about the psychotherapist go??? I bet it would have gotten a lot of activity!!!??? I smell a post Nazi!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 15, 2008 9:49 AM

slopefarm, the word from "we know who" (or is that "we know What"), after direct invitations from me, cobblehiller et.al. is that he has no intentions of joining. Perhaps so that we can feel his presence, we can blow up the NY Mag picture and use it as a makeshift dartboard or place it on the bench of a Splat the Asshat dunk tank?

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 10:00 AM

I will definitely be in the early contingent. Probably from 6:30 to 8:00 or so.

Posted by: wasder at October 15, 2008 10:07 AM

Will PropJoe make an appearance?

Posted by: Flatbushwhacker at October 15, 2008 10:12 AM

Wasder,

I will try to overlap with you. I may not make it until 7:30 or so. I'm on dad duty until then.

Posted by: slopefarm at October 15, 2008 10:15 AM

Thanks wasder.

In the (albeit unlikely) event people were to get turned away tomorrow night because Union Hall gets too busy from the various gatherings there, do any posters in Park Slope, or otherwise, know of a nearby - as in very close / walkable - and decent sized alternative we can use as an emergency backup?

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 10:16 AM

i should be there pretty early myself actually.. around 645ish. have to walk the dogs first after i get home.

-rob

Posted by: PitbullNYC at October 15, 2008 10:17 AM

Put me down for cobblehiller plus "Better Half".

Slopefarm: What said, in a post some days ago, something along the lines of : "Nope, I'm not going, but have fun."

Posted by: cobblehiller at October 15, 2008 10:17 AM

Biff, I hope to be there also, probably wife wife in tow. Early.

Posted by: denton at October 15, 2008 10:24 AM

I'm trying to make it at around 7 - anonymously...

Posted by: Arkady at October 15, 2008 10:24 AM

Thanks denton. I look forward to meeting you. It sounds like many people will be there early, which should alleviate any potential overcrowding issues.

Arkady, thanks for responding. To be clear, while it would be nice to at least be able to meet people by their login handle, everybody has the complete right to be as anonymous as the want. If you want to join in conversations and just identify yourself as a frequenter of the site, that's totally cool. "Hello, My Name Is..." tags are NOT required.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 10:34 AM

I'll be there. I'm betting that there will be at least one person there claiming to be "The What", although I'm sure they will be an imposter.

Posted by: Shahn Andersen at October 15, 2008 10:35 AM

Biff (re alternate places):

Loki (5th & 2nd - 5 short blocks away; supposedly one of the best jukeboxes in Brooklyn; was to revival of 5th Avenue what Patois was to Smith Street)

The Gate (5th & 3rd - 6 short blocks away; excellent range of draught beers, outside garden space - though weather doesn't look like it's gonna be conducive to hanging outside)

Canal Bar (President & 3rd Ave - 2 long blocks one short block away; kind of a dive bar, walled back garden, good jukebox)

None of these places is as big as Union Hall but all are likely to be less claustrophobic and douchebag-clogged than a near-capacity UH.

Posted by: johnife at October 15, 2008 10:39 AM

Thanks johnife, I have you on the list and appreciate the alternatives. It is looking like it might rain, so the outdoor spaces might not be an option. I'll leave it up to your good judgement on which venue to use as a backup, since I'm only familiar with The Gate. Others can also weigh in on their thoughts.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 10:47 AM

cattyshack! (kidding.) haha

Posted by: PitbullNYC at October 15, 2008 10:56 AM

Still unsure about being there, but if I show up it'll be early and might have to leave early.

Denton, you bringing wife wife - Do you have two?

Posted by: bayridgegirl at October 15, 2008 11:11 AM

I am looking forward to attending. I have been reading brownstoner for two years and have not commented until now. I feel as if I know all of you and am looking forward to meeting you. These past couple of weeks have been some of the most hysterically funny and interesting posts, reading them has been a highlight of my day. Too bad the What won't be there.

Posted by: gab at October 15, 2008 11:16 AM

hey gab! glad you joined in. i wish i had registered earlier myself instead of just being a lurker..

rob

Posted by: PitbullNYC at October 15, 2008 11:19 AM

Risen from the ashes of the Faded Type Wars, I will of course be there.

Posted by: Bold type guest at October 15, 2008 11:25 AM

Thanks PittbullNYC, This is the time for all the lurkers to come out, after all it is the end of the world.

Posted by: gab at October 15, 2008 11:25 AM

slopefarm--I am doing dad duty later (putting to bed etc) but I will hopefully still be there when you arrive.

Posted by: wasder at October 15, 2008 11:48 AM

gab, that was a really nice post. We're so happy to have you emerge amongst us regular posters - welcome to our dysfunctional family and I look forward to meeting you tomorrow night.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 11:51 AM

Put me down and maybe a plus one. A good friend of mine lives around the corner. Plus the Mrs. is tired of listening to me talk about RE.

Posted by: Adam Dahill at October 15, 2008 12:02 PM

Thanks Adam. I had you as a potential partygoer. I'll confirm you plus 1 to be on the safe side. You'll have lots of opportunity to talk all you want about RE tomorrow night.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 12:05 PM

Look at you Biff, you're like the consummate party planner.

Are you going to make party favors tonight?

Posted by: bayridgegirl at October 15, 2008 12:15 PM

BRG, I would prefer to thrust you into that position as I've always depended on the favors of strangers. But in the event I do decide to go ahead and make some, do you have any requests?

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 12:31 PM

Biff, I wouldn't trust me in any position like that. I'd be bound to screw it up and create something inappropriate.

After tomorrow, we won't be strangers, so you can't ask for favors.

Hard Candy with sayings from the What printed on them.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at October 15, 2008 1:05 PM

what did people snack on in the great depression? make some of whatever that was!

-r

Posted by: PitbullNYC at October 15, 2008 1:05 PM

And the correct phrase from Blanche DuBois was "the kindness of strangers."

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 15, 2008 1:18 PM

Dave, I realize that, but had to work in the word favors for comedic effect. So much for the comedic effect!

BRG, yes, perfect. Hard candy with The What's messages. Sort of like a nasty version of the Sweet Heart candies. We'll have things like, "Be My Asshat" on them.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 1:25 PM

DIBS...not you too, with Streetcar Named Desire references. I've had my fill of them from Biff.

Posted by: bayridgegirl at October 15, 2008 1:25 PM

I say we re-enact the play tomorrow night. A Brownstoner Named Desire. Dave, do you think you can pull off the role of Stanley?

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 1:32 PM

Sure...I used to go to Stella's all the time. Any of you know what Stella's was??? Fess up now!!!!

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 15, 2008 1:34 PM

A Brownstoner Named What!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
aka, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 1:39 PM

Or aka "What Lies Beneath?"

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 1:48 PM

The Grapes of What?

Posted by: SnarkSlope at October 15, 2008 2:19 PM

What's Happening?

That would be a good name for the party...

Posted by: wasder at October 15, 2008 2:27 PM

Wassssup??

Posted by: daveinbedstuy at October 15, 2008 2:35 PM

Check you're head, Dave. You're wearing your Asshat.

Posted by: Whuh at October 15, 2008 2:41 PM

I'm 75% sure I'm coming...plus 1 hubby.

Posted by: rh at October 15, 2008 2:44 PM

"what did people snack on in the great depression? make some of whatever that was!"

Fried baloney. That's what they ate too.

Posted by: denton at October 15, 2008 3:02 PM

rh, thanks. How are you going to decide which hubby to bring?

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 3:06 PM

There should be a game of Brooklyn trivia.

Bitter Renters vs. Assraped Buyers.

Posted by: Flatbushwhacker at October 15, 2008 3:11 PM

I actually feel sorry for the other posters on the Forum today. They picked a bad day to try to sell a Victorian era Cast Iron Fireplace.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 3:14 PM

I said earlier that I'll be there--my wife will probably come with me.

Posted by: Bob Marvin at October 15, 2008 4:07 PM

Thanks Bob. I've got you and your wife counted.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 4:31 PM

I am coming. And I will be at the party. I will get there around 8:15 ish. (I hope to see you wasder!)

I would come earlier, but I have to check on the What and make sure he has taken his meds and has a clean diaper on. He also likes to be tucked in before he goes to sleep, but I will only do it if he has been a good boy. Still trying to determine what story to read to him before he goes to sleep. Any suggestions?

Posted by: 11233 at October 15, 2008 4:50 PM

11233--I'll try to hang around as I would like to meet you. In re what book to read What---my two year old likes "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom." As What is about at that level of emotional development and likes using the word BOOM a lot, it might be a good fit.

Posted by: wasder at October 15, 2008 5:14 PM

Try to read something to him besides "Every Bubble Pops".

Posted by: SnarkSlope at October 15, 2008 5:39 PM

11233, seems you haven't been on as much recently, but I'm happy to hear you can make it. We should have around 30 attendees based on replies here and other confirmations I received earlier.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 6:01 PM

The one I can drag along.

Posted by: rh at October 15, 2008 6:08 PM

I hope that's the fun one.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 15, 2008 6:15 PM

not really....

Posted by: rh at October 15, 2008 6:34 PM

Biff: I got a promotion recently and it has kept me off the streets and out of trouble. (Almost)

As for the book, wasder, maybe "Everybody Poops." Given his obsession with all things anal, it seems appropriate. I just hope he doesn't get sexually aroused by all the scat. (I put nothing past the What.)

Hey, Biff, will bxgrl be there?

Posted by: 11233 at October 15, 2008 6:54 PM

You know something asshat? I'm going to enjoy this. I have a front row seat ant the implosion of the Mutant Asset Bubble so please enjoy yourself. I think the fun starts very soon...

The What

Someday this war is gonna end..

Posted by: what at October 15, 2008 7:38 PM

You know what, tWhat, there is nothing we can do about it so your bizzare behavior is a sign of deeper emotional problems.

You pretend not to be interested in this get-together, but you obsess about this issue and how much we react to it.

If you can't learn to relax and take it in stride, shut the f*ck up.

Posted by: 11233 at October 15, 2008 7:59 PM

Ah 11233, I think that zip code is in great danger on getting on the HUDs "Declining Property" list. You see you live in the Ghetto you cave dwelling Asshat! Enjoy the little time you have left..

The What (At this time Japan is down 919 points)

Someday this 11233 is gonna end...

Posted by: what at October 15, 2008 11:20 PM

I think I'll take 11233 over Lodi, NJ any day.

11233, I haven't heard from bxgrl with respect to her coming out tonight or not.

Posted by: Biff Champion at October 16, 2008 8:40 AM

"I think I'll take 11233 over Lodi, NJ any day."

You take 10 over Lodi any day..
