Dutch door
Trying to find a reasonable Dutch door for the back of the house. Having an indoor cat & children I would like to have the top open. I have found companies like The Dutch Door company but they are very expensive around $2000!. I dont mind buying on old door too. Any ideas.

On This Old House's website, I saw a family that had done a kitchen reno and had been quite clever about penny-pinching. They had a dutch door, and I think they found it on Craigslist or ebay for some ridiculously low price. If you google search the site, you'll probably find their kitchen and the resource they used.

I don't know that a Dutch door would be very effective in keeping your cat inside, unless you have the open top screened in somehow. Small children are another matter--they don't jump quite as well as cats.

Dutch or half-Dutch doors are common in barns, stalls, etc. Dimensions might not work with your house, and not sure you'll like the construction, but two sites you can look at are: http://www.doubledutchdoors.com/index.html

Google architectural salvage. I looked for doors at the salvage yard here in Barnegat, NJ last week, but I din't recall seeing any. Definitely give them a call. They are Recycling the Past,I think.
Also Kaperskys? in Kingston NY. These places have web sites now, but call them for something as specific as a dutch door.
