Do I need a DOB permit for this?

Do we need to apply for a permit in order to apply stucco to the side of a brownstone building? The contractor we hired says it will take approximate four days. The job involves scaffolding. (None of the work will face the street - the wall faces the interior yard.) I tried to look it up on the DOB website but it wasn't clear to me. Thanks very much in advance.

I think you need a permit if your scaffold is above a certain height. i.e. 40 ft.

I'm getting the facade redone on mine and no permit necessary. Maybe it's the height thing... my place is three stories, so the scaffold isn't that big.

Thank you so much The scaffold isn't 40 ft high so I think we are OK. Many thanks for your advice.

as long as it is not the C-Hook type scaffold that hangs off the roof you should be ok. DOB is targeting contractors that use C-hook scaffolds without the permit or Riggers licenses.

I'd look at the code if I were you. I had a building pointed this past summer - again, no exposure on the street. I thought it was o.k. to do it but an Inspector who came for something else last week told me I ought to've had a permit. It's a 2 storey bldg. (Mind you, he may have been wrong - a couple of other things he said didn't gibe w/ what I've heard from other inspectors.)
