Automatic Arms Fire on Monroe
I just heard someone empty an kalashnikov or kel-tec on Monroe or maybe Madison between Classon and Franklin. Three volleys. I called it in. What the hell!

Sorry, it was some sort of an assault rifle.

Should I be worried that you recognized it?

Well, a Kalishnikov would probably be AK47 or one of its variants, which takes 7.62 (.308) ammo, while most Kel-Tecs take 5.56 (.223) ammo. The discriminating 'hood dweller should be able to tell the difference.

A few useless facts:
1. AK47 = Kalishnikov. It's the name of the gun and the name of the Russian who designed it.
2. Based upon "heartbreak ridge" (the clint eastwood classic about the invasion of Grenada), the AK makes a distinctive sound that is easily identified.
