appliance question
Howdy,
Is there a standard space between the top of a range and the hood (where a backsplash would typically go)?
Thanks,
Lauri

Minimum is 30", max is usually 36". I believe the minimum is actually in some -- if not all -- building codes. I think the maximum is generally the accepted height at which the fan becomes ineffective.

I thought the minimum/typical was 17", but higher looks much better......

30-36 is correct range. it is also good practice to make the hood 6 inches wider than the cooktop ( ie 3 inches on either side) also sizing (CFM's) the blower and locating it in the hood or outside the building are other important considerations - outside is generally better as it takes the noise away from the kitchen.

17" is the standard distance between counter top and wall cabinets. 30-36 for range to cabinet. Be careful of the 30" low end: if you are tall and bend over to stir a pot on the back burner, it is likely that you will hit your head on the hood!!
My suggestion is 33".
