Six Months Advance Rent?
Has anyone heard of prospective renters offering 6 months of rent up front? I found this to be an unusual offer by someone looking to rent an empty apartment that my dad has.

Sure, they usually kids who really want the apt and their parents have the cash. ANd the kids usually have no credit or bad credit.

Yes I have.
There was one situation where I received one years rent in advance in addition to a 1 month security deposit. The tenant was from a foreign country and had to be in school for the year.

I used to do it when I was in college. I would get my financial aid disbursement and go ahead and prepay an entire semester's worth of rent. It helped me to keep budgeted and my landlords LOVED me because they knew they'd never have problems collecting. I also felt it gave me a little leverage in getting problems resolved quickly - no landlord wants to piss off the tenant who has prepaid her entire lease term. :)
