Removing Paint
How do I remove white latex paint from a stainless steel sink.?
My friend who painted the kitchen was a slob but I like him anyway Believe it or not the friendship is still in tact.

Try using a plastic scraper, or a nylon scotchbrite pad. They won't be hard enough to scratch the steel, but should get rid of the plastic paint. You could also try some paint thinner. If these don't work go to Macy's or Bloomingdales and get some stainless steel cookware cleaner - they're abrasive but should also give a nice polish to the sink.

Ysabelle, where you been, sweetie? You should upgrade your friends, but bohuma is right about the scotchbrite. Toothbrush should work also. Latex paint doesn't stick well to stainless, shouldn't be hard.

steel wool. you can use it to buff out the whole sink so it matches. goto the hardware store (or send this 'friend') and get a few different roughnesses, and buff it out. use the roughest to remove the paint, then something finer to even everything out.

A blow torch, phosphoric acid and an angle grinder?

Just soaking the paint with water should enable you to scrape it off with your fingernail. Paint thinner won't do anything to latex paint. I've removed tons of latex paint from many surfaces with just a sponge and some abrasive scouring powder.

BarKeepers Friend (something like Ajax) works for just about everything I've ever tried it on. It's what high end cookware manufacturers recommend for their products, and you can get it at a supermarket.
That would be my first attempt.
