REMOVING AN OLD RADIATOR--??
we are thinking of removing an old, non-functioning radiator in our bedroom, since the other one works fine and we could use the extra space.
is there any reason *not* to do this? and: what kind of person would do this kind of job: a plumber, or. . . ??
thank you.

If it's steam it's really easy to remove. Just be sure that your shut off valve doesn't leak. It's more complicated with a hot water system because it has two pipes making the connection. You may want to call a plumber or handyman.

It may not want to come out; I've seen two people with wrench extensions having to unscrew the couplings. So I'd recommend someone who can be responsible if something breaks.
However, no practical reason not to.

I recommend a licensed plumber. Process and cost is more complicated if hot water return system. Will cost around $300 to have one taken out.
Space is a great reason to take one out.
Consider how that loop will get closed off and what the impact is to the flooring underneath and ceiling below.

I'd scrub it up, leave it right there.
